    Hey, great idea! And while we are at it, let’s remove mobs as well since they are SUCH a big risk…

    Please tell me this isn’t a serious conversation… Player vs Player combat has already been limited thanks to anti cheat and the other million plugins that make it harder to fight people. Ships are hardly used anyway, let alone attacked. I get it, I’ve built ships and had them stolen, attacked, the whole nine. But the server was built off of the ability to sail ships and either raid or get raided. So far, no one does anything that used to make Piratecraft the server that it was. Fighting is now a thing of the past, no one as far as I have seen lately has successfully attacked someone, let alone have the drive to do it. Now we wish to eliminate yet another method of pirating? COME ON PEOPLE, play the game how it was intended to be played! Please, it has grown so dull and boring over the years of complaining. For Christ’s sake, if you don’t want to be attacked and lose your stuff, learn to fight back and protect it!

    I’m so tired of the fact that you can’t understand that I don’t want to limit your chances of PVP.. I want to promote the use of ships by eliminating the use of tnt to blast boats to the bottom of the sea, I NEVER said you could not come aboard my ship and raid me, nor did I ask anyone to be polite about it.

    It’s so frustrating to try and make better changes to the server, because the response is always gonna be ” stop ruining PVP, it’s a pirate server ffs. Live with it!” It’s not piratey to swim around an ocean with tnt on your belt, stop using this as an excuse to absolutely everything, it’s so ridiculous..

    Why was fire spread on lighters rebuffed? I’ll tell you. It was to discourage players from jumping on others ships and burning them to the ground in secs, to level the playing field, to encourage the use of cannons, to encourage the use of ships.

    Did it help? no. Cuz you dont fucking get the hint, you just find another way of bypassing it, you just bring tnt instead, good job! Apparently the only way to limit the insta kabooms is to police the oceans or program the game to not let you blow up ships that way, cuz if you have the means to do it, then you will do it. Why? – because its easier and you dont have you risk your own ship.. But the plugin is fucking designed to be SHIP to SHIP, not SHIP to MAN IN THE OCEAN WITH INVIS AND AQUA BOOTS.

    I get it you think this is the only way to still get EZ kills and get angry kids in chat, but it’s not my fault PVP is bad on the server. Why don’t YOU guys start your own suggestion to how you want PVP to develop in the future if you’re so tired of how it is now? I can tell you i do see people get killed lots on the server, honestly. Only problem is when the OP players make god fights and die due to aac. Talk to staff about a fix, but don’t tell me I limit PVP by policing the oceans, cuz as you say yourself, NO ONE SAILS. Why is that, think for one sec please and tell me its not because every time someone leave port invis broskis show up to kaboom, 1 sec later byebye ship, go build a new one.

    I’m actually trying to improve PVP if you cannot understand the message.

    As an up and coming crew, it is wise to set in stone a plan to achieve economical success while maintaining a fun playing environment.

    Our main goal as a crew is to increase trade, defend our allies and territory, and have fun doing so. This is a short summary of plans for the Future.

    Port Towns:

    This is the first step. Making 4 Large port towns all with specific purposes different from the others. (Ex. Port 1 = Farming Port 2 = Mining)

    Ship Trade:

    Between these 4 port towns We will establish a ship based trading economy. each town will ship goods via ships increasing the need for ships and increasing activity of ships.

    Ship Building and Trading:

    Every pirate needs a ship right? Well, We will build ships and in addition to paying for ships you can also trade ships. Factors will determine how much a ship is valued at.

    Canal Building:

    We will aspire to create better waterways for easier use of ships while respecting other players territories and the land in which we mine. ( @Browe_ )

    Piratecraft Training Camp:

    Members of our crew will be taught how to efficiently use the plugins of the server to their full potential.

    Walls walls and some more walls:

    Base defenses are a key to success and we will have a lot of them.

     

    This is the basic plan for the future for Public release. There are many more plans to be made in the future.

    We originally had http://reddit.com/r/pirate_craft/ for 3 years as I couldn’t get /r/piratecraft, but Markus was able to get his hands on it, so lets revive the Reddit community where a lot of the base users were originally from.

    The Beauty of reddit is people can upvote and downvote anything anyone posts, so we can have a “whats hot/good” and whats not.

    I want people to post videos, images, jokes, piratecraft memes, songs, anything related to piratecraft in there, the ideas for it to be a fun place to also curate content from piratecraft for the community of piratecraft, and to try and get its own subreddit community going!

    I updated the reddit link in the “Follow us” menu, maybe I need it in the side-menu, we no longer do polls on the website, so maybe I will replace that.

    I’m triggered. Where is my BOTM scorpion? Also it’d be cool to see builds like these throughout the piratecraft world, just in random places for people to find/come across to smile at and see a bit more life in the world. Just my idea anyway, I think I have built some random structures in my time on PirateCraft which I hope people find.

    Server Economics vs Real Life Economics

    Yes people, I’m back at it again! It’s been 4 months since my last post, some stuff has changed (I’ll cover that at the end), but what I’m here for today is to talk much more about the structure of the market on the server, and put forth a few suggestions for the future. If you want a bit more general information I recommend reading my last post (https://piratemc.com/topic/the-piratecraft-economy-and-how-it-works-2/ ). Here we go!

    Fair warning, this is my opinion once more, so feel free to comment or add anything. Trump-approved wall of text incoming, be warned.

    Types of Markets

    Ok so this is a pretty big one that I didn’t cover much in my last post – it doesn’t mean my last post is no longer valid, but it does change a few things. Here is a very brief overview of the types of market. When I talk about the ‘market’, I’m not talking about the whole economy, I’m only talking about a specific part of the economy – such as the market for phones, or for computer games.

    There are 4 main types of market structure:

    • Monopoly – Where there is one big company pretty much runs the entire market. It has so much power in the market; it can set pretty much any price it wants, without losing many customers. Example: Standard Oil – it was owned by John D Rockefeller way back in 1870. It controlled so much of the market, no matter how high the prices were, people kept buying from them as they had few alternatives.
    • Oligopoly – Almost like a monopoly, but this time there are several large firms that control the market. Example: Apple and Samsung in the phone industry. They’re huge companies, each with lots of the market share. Ever wondered why Apple’s phones are so expensive? It’s because they know people will still buy them even if they cost $999.99, because they have that much power in the market.
    • Monopolistic Market – Sounds like a monopoly, but it isn’t. Lots of firms in the market, selling different things, at different prices, but they all have similar amounts of market share. Example: Local restaurants – they’re usually quite a lot in a town, they all serve different things, and they usually get around the same amount of customers.
    • Perfect Competitive Market – This is the weird one of the four. There are tonnes firms in the market, all selling pretty much the same items, at pretty much the same price. Example: Egg companies – eggs are eggs, you can’t really make them very different from one another. If one company starts selling eggs at a higher price, supermarkets will just choose a different company as they have so many companies to choose from.

    The type of market structure on Piratecraft

    The ways goods are produced on Piratecraft are all pretty much the same – you either find it, you grow it, or you craft it. The only exception to this is custom items, or items that are unobtainable (such as elytras). Therefore, I will be disregarding the market for these ultra rare items, and instead be focusing on the more genuine items such as stone, potions, and enchanted books.

    The markets on this server are mostly perfectly competitive meaning that everyone who sells stuff is on a level playing field basically. Here are the features for a perfectly competitive market, and I’ll be applying them to the PMC market using Cysteen’s and __plant’s shops as examples.

    • The items in the market are all the same. Whether Cysteen or __plant sell dirt – its exactly the same dirt. Dirt is dirt, you can’t change that. You can’t get ‘premium’ dirt, you can’t get ‘__plant brand dirt’, nor is one dirt better than the other. It’s the same
    • There is nothing stopping you from entering the market. Cysteen has been on much longer than __plant, yet they both have shops. It’s not hard to start selling stuff, all you need is well… stuff… and if possible a shop at /warp shops.
    • Customers have ‘perfect information’. This basically means that we as customers know exactly what we are buying. If I go to Cysteen’s shop and she is selling wool, I know that I’ll be getting wool. An example where this would not be the case is a second-hand car dealership: the dealer may say ‘oh yeah the car is in perfect condition’, but you don’t know that.
    • There are lots of people in the market. This one is a bit ‘meh’. We used to have loads of people selling stuff, especially back when we had player owned warps. Compared to the amount of people on the server, not many have shops. There’s still quite a lot of shops to choose from, just not as many as there theoretically should be (this means that something is preventing people from getting shops, ill get to that later).
    • The customers dictate the prices. If Cysteen increases the price of one of her items, she will lose customers – as they can go elsewhere and buy stuff cheaper very easily. She doesn’t have much power in terms of what something should cost – it depends on the other sellers, and the customers. She has no choice but to sell at the same sort of price as her rivals, otherwise she won’t make any money.

    What effect/difference does it matter?

    Each market has its characteristics that make it either easy, or hard to set a price for an item. If I’m a monopoly (the only person selling an item such as elytras), I can set my price really really high, because I know people will want to buy one. However, if there are loads of other people all selling pretty much the same stuff (perfectly competitive market) it makes it very hard if neigh impossible to set a price for an item.

    In simple terms; if you think prices are too cheap on the server, there is very little you can do. This is why trying to boycott another player’s shop, or buying all of the diamonds to increase their price won’t change much.

    Undercutting 

    Undercutting is where you offer goods or services at a lower price than a competitor. For example, Cys sells stone at $1.50 per stack, but then __plant decides to sell it at $1.40 – to make it cheaper and sell more.

    Undercutting has always been an issue on the server, but it’s the sign of a responsive market (which is a good thing). There is nothing worse than a market that is not changing or adapting – it’s the worst thing in the world, so undercutting can be seen as a good thing.

    But

    It’s a shop owner’s worst nightmare when someone next door sets up a shop, and sells everything just a little bit cheaper. It’s annoying, and you have the right to be annoyed. In real life, this sort of thing is regulated – if firms are consistently undercutting each other, they will be fined and forced to increase their prices. We don’t have that on the server. I’m not saying undercutting is a good thing, or a bad thing. It always happens and it always will happen no matter what.

    A solution to undercutting/price war

    Undercutting isn’t the main issue; it’s the prices of shops in my opinion. I know from reports of several players who own shops that they barely cover their monthly rental costs. It’s cheaper to just sell something privately without a shop – you save yourself hundreds of $$$ every month. If shop prices weren’t so high, players would be more willing to adjust their prices in accordance to demand, rather than to try and make enough money to keep their shop going.

    Basically, instead of selling an item expensively to try and make enough money to cover the costs of your shop, you could sell the item for the equilibrium price (I talked about this in my last post).

    And yes, reducing the prices of shops will probably mean the prices of some items will fall. But at least then the market can adjust naturally, rather than being forced to a price demanded by some shop owners with high shop rents.

    In conclusion… finally

    So basically:

    • The prices on PMC are affected a lot by the prices of shops
    • Its very hard to set a price for a certain good – trying to get diamonds to sell for more is very hard, very very hard
    • Undercutting isn’t great, but it isn’t Satan. It has its benefits too, and the level of undercutting can be reduced by lowering shop prices and getting more people to sell (especially if pvp will be enabled at /warp shops – because it will scare off some customers)

     

    A few suggestions to help the economy/market develop faster

    • As previously mentioned; reduce shop rent prices. If pvp will be enabled at the shops, it will mean less customers – at least less customers that are alive. Reducing the shop prices by around 25% should see a decent amount of getting shops – helping the economy develop faster.
    • Change the layout of /warp shops a bit. Seriously, I’m not joking. Most of the shops players buy is along the main ‘high street’ and the market. The other shops, such as those in the North and East, are almost never rented because they are just too far away from the action of the high street. My using w/e and rotating a few buildings and roads, you could greatly increase the user-friendliness of /warp shops. It’s a 1 hour job with w/e
    • Combine all of the existing warps to the shops into one warp. Along with that, move the warp to the center market place, not the castle – I don’t care about the castle, if it doesn’t sell rum, I don’t care. This modification would go hand-in-hand with the one above. I believe there is currently a poll on the server for this.
    • Have some rum. Rum solves all of your problems.

      I know it was a lot to read, but thanks for at least clicking on here and sparing me 10 minutes of your life. Sorry if it was a bore, it probably was, but I really wanted to get this out there because I wanted to discuss undercutting. And yes i totally stole those memes. Poi

    PirateCraft marketplace. Doubloon Haven

    November 2016 (Nearly a year ago)

    look at the PVP section I wrote:

    At present the entire market city is PVP free, this won’t be forever, PVP is disabled while we iron out any kinks, a lot of players are helping staff test out shops, we don’t want PVP to interfere with this yet, when we do turn PVP on, the main spawn building will still be entirely PVP free, and we will have PVP free spawn points for when teleporting around the market.

    Well its been a year, people have had a year to post and reports for issues with the renting system or the area, anyone that is craftsman is able to change any of the market at will that isn’t rented for odd block annoyances. Staff can now also set Craftsman.

    Im happy to turn on PVP in non “warp” areas. So anywhere that is a direct warp place will have markings on the floor to show that its a safezone.

    We could turn that shops warp into another trade room if needed.

    I think I will keep all chests properly locked for now, theres too much value lost if someone can get into a chest, as they can Sell items to the store, take the items out (If they gain access to a chest) and rinse a players balance. But PVP should be fine to toggle.

    How about we make it a Poll in-game?

    Yes it will be like a faction servers but without the need of keeping up “power” from killing people. So let me elaborate it’s going to be exactly like piratecraft, the claiming plugin would stay the same but instead would just be unprotected from tnt and such. There would also be no “over claiming” if your power is more than the person your raiding. All this would do is add a more need for protection and a way to get revenge against players that have raided by insiding. It also increases competition and increasing the servers players!

    All around it would not be like a faction server but instead just a more competitive version of what we already have.

    Righty so uh….this forum is more of a group effort so I’ll just get all the tagging out of the way! @Chailey @iketo @turkeyman11a @Cysteen @mountainrasta @N4D0M3T1CG4M3R @PythonAce @12965kj WHEW!!

    Long story short is that I decided to start my own small business making pens and what better way than to send the first ones to people who aren’t afraid to call me a $H1T@$$ to my face! I hope that everyone is able to post a picture of their pens because otherwise this post is going to be a waste.

    I never expected when I joined this server that it would take me to this point. Sending out real objects to real people because of a video game. The real effect of what I was doing really didn’t hit me until I had to pay for the stamps and it ran through my head that….holy crap…..this is happening. Thankyou so much for everything to pretty much everyone for making this experience one that has lasted going on 3 years for me. Every good and bad part of this trip has been totally beyond worth it and I really can’t put into words how I feel writing this right now.

    I’ll leave it here and let everyone post the pictures of their (hopefully) nice looking pens!

    Some deckhands wanted to know how the crew was formed so instead of explaining each time i’m just going to sent this link, sorry it’s so long xD I got bored so i made a little story lol.

    THE HISTORY OF THE PLANT NATION:

    A long time a go in the mists of February 2016 a small Plant grew on the Ibroian Peninsula. Plant was looking for a place to stay and a somewhere to call home. Then suddenly a player called Palmerageddon recruited Plant for his crew, the Ibroian Order. Plant went the Palmer’s island and found a hill of sunflowers. Plant built a house at the bottom of this hill, the walls were made of sand and cobblestone, a tall wood tower shot up along the right side of the house. After a few months Plants house was full of Armour, chickens , mine carts and even an underground tunnel that lead to a stone brick watch tower. After a while plant was told several times that the house wasn’t siege-proof. plant had no idea what a ‘siege’ was and couldn’t be bothered to look on the website and thought that ”siege and land claims are far to complicated for a small little plant me!”

    plant got fed up of all the mithering and set out to create a siege-proof  base that was the most siege-proof of them all! But plant would need some help! plant invited her friend Amazeballs1 to the server and they had a great time! they built information centers, shops, a very tall farm! and many other amazing structures! Plant lived on the first floor, the second floor of the base was shared and Amazeballs1 lived on the third. They would Skype almost everyday ad play piratecraft together!

    Soon after the creation of the base Plant and Amazeballs heard some news Palmer hadn’t been online as much as he used too. One day when he was online he came down from his Hill top Brick castle and told the pair that the Ibroian order would be moving the remainder of its active crew members to another crew. This crew as called TXO the Xanthian Order. So Plant, Amazeballs and another good crew friend Mande09 all moved over to the new crew. This was great, new crew! new sailor rank! everything was so fun!

    The leaders of TXO were Maximus_Terragon, Chailey and Thymen. After a while Amazeballs1 stopped playing because he was getting bored and wanted to play on different servers. Plant thought he was boring and thought Amazeballs1 was boring.  Since the crew island wasn’t as lively as it used to be plant was all alone, although plant was friends with the leaders of TXO it wasn’t the same. Plant asked if some new recruits from the crew wanted to live on the island so some did. Max, Chailey and Thymen Created a street of houses made especially for new members to live in, they also built a docks full of ships and boats. You see, all of this may seem good but every crew member the leaders recruited left after a day or two. No members stayed loyal to the crew. Plant wanted to recruit members herself to liven the island up a bit but she had no permission. Plant needed a crew of her own.

    After months and months of debating and thinking plant finally made the decision to create THE PLANT NATION. This would be a brand new start but also a great risk, would plant be able to handle running a crew? would plant have the money? Plant stopped worrying and left TXO. Going solo was hard at first but after a while plant gt the hang of it. Plant was recruiting so many players the crew was growing faster and faster. Still though, plant had the same problem. Every single member she recruited would be amazing, they would talk and create a house and after they created a house they would log off, and never log back on ever again. Plant always hoped with every new player recruited that this would be the player that stick would stick with the server and eventually become vice captain of the crew. But nobody ever did. A few players built AMAZING houses and ships and stayed with the crew for a few weeks but no matter what they would always get bored and leave.

    Some players would join the crew and build a tiny dirt house and leave without trusting plant in their claim. This means plant is stuck with the tiny dirt house on the island FOREVER . this is yet another reason plant claims the houses.

    TODAY:

    To this day plant has been unsuccessful in recruiting a member that has been loyal to the crew and stuck with piratecraft. Plant hopes in the future that someday she will have a Vice Captain of the crew who is active just as much as plant. But for now the search continues.

    Hi I'm _SPOOKYPLANT ( or plant for short ). I run a crew called the Plant Nation. The Plant Nations main focus is to recruit new deckhands to the server and run the peninsula which is growing my the second!
