Follow up from http://piratemc.com/topic/piratecraft-1-11-roadmap/ The roadmap will be the thread I update for 1.11 updates, this is a changelog to say the changes have been made.

    • Added 1.11 protocol hack, this allows 1.11 clients to connect to the 1.10 server software, read the thread above for 1.11 questions.
    • Updated Spigot and Bungee software to allow 1.11 to connect
    • Hopefully fixed the delayed logout messages
    • Removed that new anti-cheat that created “rubber banding” it was flagging falsely and teleporting people back

You can still use the 1.10 client to connect, optifine hasn’t updated yet!

If you plan on updating the website, keep in mind that the domain “piratecraft.com” is up for sale.

haha yeah, this guy isn’t reasonable at all, I have contacted him on a few occasions, hes a domain squatter, they steal up domains which usually cost about $10 for the year and then they demand over $2500 for them, he asked for that! I even called him, just ended up laughing at him.

As for the illustrations, people should post what they have done before! So then we can gauge if we could use the art style, obviously if we commission something we would give full credit and rewards for it, I wanted to ask inside the community first! 🙂

Now when is PirateCraft moving to 1.11? Simple answer is when 1.11 is tested to make sure everything works fine, I do this by running the 1.11 on our test server, now at present there isn’t a 1.11 Spigot (The server files) out, so were waiting on the server software to be released first, we need to let a few servers run this to catch the first set of bugs which always happens, and then we see what plugins break and what needs fixing.

What kind of graphics? Illustrations? Animation renders? Or is this leading to a new Piratecraft site design?

Yeah I was thinking about a website redesign at some point in the near future. I wanted to see what kind of hidden talent is hidden on PirateCraft, so Illustrators would be good to create us some designs, I just don’t have any ideas what to ask for! So its very vague at present! But if we have animators hidden too make yourself known!

Do we have any artists here? I would love to see what kind of polished graphics we could get made for PirateCraft by the community!

Hey guys Im a little late to the party but figured i would chime in on this since I think its a pretty awesome topic and a pretty awesome community here at Piratecraft.

I was born in Dalton Georgia USA a small city close to the beginning of the Appalachian trail. We moved to the middle of nowhere Florida for a few years then back to a small farming town about 30 mins drive from Dalton where i was born. So Im a country boy at heart and love wide open spaces and the beauty of nature.

Then after the unfortunate event of my parents splitting up I found my self living just out side of Atlanta, Georgia’s capitol city, with my mom. There are quite big domestic cultural differences just in moving from rural to suburb as well as the exposure to a big international city such as Atlanta.

My father was (from before my birth) and still is a pastor of a baptist church and he traveled to many places in South America and Africa. Some were remote villages and some were bigger cities and as far back as I can remember there was always a slide show (slide shows were pictures put in front of a projector. Kinda irl powerpoint.) that chronicled his travels. I was amazed by all the different, and to me at the time strange, people that I saw in those slides.

One group of people were the Maasai tribe in Kenya. They were a very colorful and tall people who were warriors that still lived as their ancestors had and it blew my mind as a 7 year old. In talking with him about how these different people lived, what they ate, how they interacted with one another I found myself such adventures of my own.  Though that would not be until after i was in my 30’s

Fast forward to 2005 and i found my self on a team that was heading to Nepal to deliver medical aid and training to remote villages in the Himalayas. We made this trip to Nepal 3 times each time spending a month bringing supplies from Kathmandu to the villages in the Lang Tang region. The Nepali’s are a wonderful and kind people. Every where you went someone would invite you for milk tea and conversation. I made some deep friendships there and learned a lot about Hindi and Buddhist culture that were woven throughout the Nepali people.

During those trips we also would visit our friends in India for a couple of weeks who helped out with several orphanages. We would help out in anyway we could. India is a vibrant, busy, and crowded place and even though like Nepal it is a Hindi nation it was expressed in a very distinctly Indian way culturally.

Through those years of getting to experience so many different cultures, some very intimately like Nepal, India and Mexico, and some just in a more touristy manner like Thailand, Paris, Hong Kong, and The British Virgin Islands, completely change my narrow and self focused worldview I had as an American.

Now I live in Alexandria Egypt with my wife and two kids. We have lived here for the last 5 years and consider this our home now. The Egyptian culture is quite diverse here in Alexandria since it is the second largest city in Egypt. So you have some very traditional type cultural things like children live with their parents until they get married, both boys and girls. Or the eating of a traditional fish meal called feseek at the start of spring holiday Shams el Nissem. I have not been brave enough to try that yet. Its basically spoiled fish thats salted and it smells horrid. And some more resent cultural developments like Shaabi music that was born from the streets kind of a mix between traditional Arab, house, and pop.

The people here are really nice and love to eat, drink tea, and chat about you most personal things haha. There are like in every place on earth people that believe the media and hate you just because of where your from but thankfully they are the minority despite our politicians pissing everyone off with their foreign policy. But we wont go there 🙂

Other that English I speak some Spanish from 20 years in the construction business as a lot of crews I hired were from Spanish speaking countries. Mostly food and bad words are all I remember.

I am also learning Egyptian Arabic which is called Amaya. I’m not quite fully conversational yet but can do pretty much any task i need to without assistance and hold very basic conversation. To learn and understand the language fully you need to understand the cultural aspect which is a much deeper and lengthy process.

As far as food goes I’ll eat pretty much anything. I love all good food. In my travels Ive eaten every part of the goat literally. Eye, brains, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, intestines, testicles, either fried boiled and grilled. Some on purpose and some out of respect for the person serving it. Brains are actually good breaded and fried on a sandwich as well as liver if its done right. Ive been feed donkey meat, yak meat and milk, water buffalo, and some things that were just a mystery.

The yak milk was straight from the teat to my cup and had some hair in it. It was horrible.

My favorite Nepali dish was momo’s which are a steamed meat dumpling. I dont recall the names of the Indian dishes but they were mostly all good. All Mexican food, most Chinese food, fast food well like I said all food pretty much fits into my favorite category. 🙂

My kids tell me they cant remember what i told them because I talk to much so i’ll stop here.

This community is remarkable and full of remarkable folks. I love it.

    Blu

This is a nice post, I’ll add on!

    Origin of  “Ketoh”

Alright so my first username was KetoneleoneLeone being from Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories (It’s still a good game tbh). Ketone was just another name rhyming with Leone, and based on real name Keaton.

After I joined Piratecraft, people called me Keto or Ket for short, and it just stuck, and I changed my name a few times based on Keto. @reptaria called me Ketoh, kudos to you rep, and now that’s how I came to be 🙂

    Origin of  “Pie”

And my Pie counterpart is from my good friend _Lego_, when he and I worked together as a duo in the Ottoman Empire/Red Lotus.

Put the two names together, you get KetohPie! 😀

Names. Everyone has one who he or she is known by across the Piratecraft World.

But what do they mean? Where did they come from? Is there any lore associated with your name/charracter?

Piratecraft has such a diverse amount of names, each with their own history and meaning behind them. I find this sort of thing very interesting, and I would like to offer the opportunity for the rest of the community to share the meaning, origin and/or lore behind their Piratecraft name. Names can be old ones, or new ones. They don’t need to have originated in Piratecraft – mine didn’t. They don’t even need to have any kind of in-depth meaning or lore behind them; simply “my parents used to call me xXcreeperboy420proXx” would do just fine haha, although I highly doubt that was ever the case, with that name at least.

Most importantly, no mocking please – no matter how ‘unique’ the name, meaning, origin or lore behind it is.

    I’ll start it off:

Origin of my Piratecraft name, Maximus_Terragon:

The name actually originated back in January 2013, when I was looking for a steampunk-themed name for the steampunk airship warfare game, Guns of Icarus. Maximus was my username for most games from about 2009 onward anyway, due to my IRL name being Max. The ‘Terragon’ bit came from the spice, tarragon (spelled with an ‘a’), I simply changed the first ‘a’ to an ‘e’, and so my name, Maximus Terragon was born.

    Meaning of my name:

‘Maximus Terragon’ has a somewhat Latin background to it; with Maximus meaning, ‘the greatest’. Terragon needs to be split up into two parts; ‘Terra’, and ‘gon’. ‘Terra’ meaning ‘land’ or ‘earth’, and ‘gon’ meaning ‘angle’, or in some sense ‘shape’. Therefore, ‘Maximus Terragon’ in Latin (with a bit of word play) translates as ‘The Greatest Land-shape(er)’, in other words an architect, or a builder, as they are the ones who shape the land. To summarize, it can be assumed that my name translates to something like ‘The Greatest Architect/builder’. I only discovered this about a year after I first created my name. Ironically, I love to build and consider myself a good builder and designer.

    Lore:

I haven’t really thought about much in-depth lore to do with my name to be honest.

All I could think of: I was born to wealthy family, the Tarragons, who shared close relations with the rulers of the original Ottoman Empire. I started building my port, and earned recognition across the Ottoman Empire until my Port was announced the capital of the Ottoman Empire, Port Terragon. Soon after the Ottoman Empire fell, I inherited large amounts of resources from the later leaders of the OE, and used them to forge my new ‘Empire’, the Xenon Empire (despite it being of small size, I still called it an empire). From then onward I was known as Emperor Maximus Terragon. The XE started to crumble, and suffer under it’s decades of inactivity. I was an Emperor with no Empire to lead. Along with the Leaders of the Iborian Empire, Luteus Republic and Templar, we discussed the possibility of merging the crews together, to form an even larger ‘Order’. After weeks of negotiating, we decided to merge into The Xanthian Order, and I received the rank of Grand Master (a temporary rank carried over from the Templars). I now go by the name of ‘Grand Master Maximus Terragon’, although that may still change.

Well enough from me, what about you lot?

First of all, what an amazing thread!

My real names Tom, I’m born and live in the UK, Pretty much full blown British, Im drinking Tea as I write this! My language skills are limited to English (How very British!), I think the only French I remember is “Omelette du fromage” from dexters lab! Ha! I’ve always been a fan of running communities online, I’ve had many projects before PirateCraft getting people together around a certain subject! The only other game server I’ve run before this was a Counter Strike Source server that had a niche of “glass” based maps.

When it comes to food, you cant beat your own home country’s favourites can you!? Mine is by far a British Roast dinner, usually Beef rules above all but I wont shy away from a Chicken or Pork roast! (Now im hungry!)

Im a massive fan of travel and finding out more about how different cultures live around the world, were all the same humans but we all live so differently! I’ve been to places around Europe, Africa, Asia and North America, Next on my wishlist is either Japan or Norway, maybe next year! One thing that really surprised me about NYC is how safe I felt in it, When your going around a new city its quite easy to feel a bit out of place, but its amazing how friendly a lot of people are in the USA.

    Pets; I love Dogs

Music, I cant believe this one hasn’t made it here yet! Im a massive fan of music, I listen to loads, Metal, Rock, D&B, Ray, Electro, Classic, Country, Spotify is fantastic for finding new stuff daily! Maybe we should have a shared Spotify playlist?
