    As far as I could tell from the number of people there, this was the largest ship battle ever on the server, and buy was it a hell of a lot of fun – even i took out a ship with a small crew. Thanks to everyone who turned up and took part, and a special thank you to MysticTitan who helped moderate the battle with me. This was also the first battle in which all the ships were built (as least in part) by me – only one I didn’t fully build was the Teletub.

    The battle was split into two halves: pre-break and after a 10 minute break. Also, it was a free-for all, no teams this time, no matter how misleading the ship names are.

    Winners (based on the last surviving ship):

    1. HMS Iron Duke – Browe_ (captain), Buckmaster1993 (navigator), Crazymoneyy, Dark_101, (more?)
    2. HMS Ajax – IElectric_pvp (captain), lazydog11, WaterPool, 4orange, ARTracy
    3. [unnamed frigate] – Minister_Moo (captain), Commander_Asher (reserve captain), Maximus_Terragon (reserve captain), GingfulGlider

    I’m probably missing a lot of people. I know we had well over 30 people there at one point, either taking part or spectating. The two unnamed ships held out very long, but they were both eventually deemed out, so I took out the Teletub and invited any remaining crew members to join me. We didn’t last too long.

    Other rankings (based on my observations):

    • Most damage received as % of ship – [unnamed schooner] (looked like a mini Teletub at the end)
    • Most damage dealt as % of ship – [HMS Iron Duke]
    • Most damage repaired as % of ship – [unnamed schooner]
    • Most ships sunk/disabled – HMS Iron Duke (3) Was difficult to tell as all ships shot each other
    • Most player kills – HMS Iron Duke (many)
    • Strangest ‘ship’ – Jet Fighter (it was a plane, and yes it shouldn’t be allowed but it was very fragile so i made an exception. huangR still did quite a bit of damage in it)

    Timeline

    Rather than doing the usual damage report and whatnot (and due to lack of time) I’ll just be summarizing key events in order. I’ll be doing this in GMT time, and these are estimates – I didn’t go around with a notepad and write everything down, I have better things to do. For cannon layout, (2,10,4) means 2 at the front, 10 on each side, 4 at the back.

    • 7:10 – Blackshadow969’s ship is sunk before the battle and I build him a new schooner
    • 7:45 – The Narwhal announces it will not be taking part in the battle
    • 8:00 – People start preparing the ships
    • 8:08 – Official start of the battle – all ships set off (except the Fighter Jet and Teletub)
      • Iron Duke (0,22,0) – Indiaman with heavy side armour,  44 auto-fire/manual cannons + two mortars at the front , but very little rear armour and no front or rear cannons
      • Ajax (2,16,4) – Manowar with heavy side armour, and reinforced decks, 38 manual cannons, but lacks front and rear armour
      • Frigate (2,5,3) – Frigate with decent side armour, 15 cannons, but lacks firepower
      • Schooner (0,3,1) – Fast little schooner with a large crew (and respawn point!), 7 cannons, but lacks armour
      • Jet Fighter (6,0,0) – Schooner that also functions as a plane, 6 forward facing cannons, but lacks armour
      • Teletub (6,7,2) – Indiaman with great survivability, 22 cannons, but is ugly, slow, lacks decks, and is still damaged from last battle
    • 8:10 – Iron Duke engages the schooner
    • 8:13 – Ajax engages the schooner
    • 8:17 – huangR’s Fighter Jet finally enters the battle. The schooner takes heavy damage, the frigate is damaged by the Ajax
    • 8:23 – The Fighter Jet is disabled and out of the battle after taking just a few hits.
    • 8:25 – The schooner is technically completely disabled and the Iron Duke starts engaging the Ajax and frigate. I pilot the frigate, and try to escape unsuccessfully.
    • 8:26 – Ajax fires a broadside into the Iron Duke, destroying many cannons
    • 8:30 – 10 minute repair time – Due to heavy damage received by the smaller ships, and notable damage on both of the larger ships, we have a mini break.
    • 8:39 – Ships move away from each other to the corners of the arena to prepare for an end of the break. Couple of people have to leave, and new crew members join.
      • Iron Duke – Both sides repaired and re-inforced, fixed redstone and cannons, and patched the giant hole in the side
      • Ajax – Deck repaired, some cannons added, and armour repaired
      • Frigate – Removed front cannons and added cannons to the sides instead, added a lot of armour at the front to tank shots from the Iron Duke
      • Schooner – They somehow managed to take a bunch of random blocks and spit all over what was left of the ship and added cannons – but hey it worked!
    • 8:40 – End of 10 minute break
    • 8:45 – Iron Duke engages the schooner again, and the Ajax engages the frigate
    • 8:50 – The schooner is out of the battle, although some people keep on fighting from within whats left of it
    • 8:52 – The frigate is abandoned and surrenders, the Ajax and Iron Duke start heading toward each other
    • 8:53 – I take out the Teletub for the shits and giggles (it wasn’t going to win anyway, it only had 3 cannons, and was still broken after the last battle). Bunch of people from the two broken ships join me
    • 9:00 – Heavy fighting between the Ajax and Iron Duke, the Teletub joins in but mostly just takes a lot of damage, because all the cannons are knocked out
    • 9:10 – Ajax is stuck on the wreck of the schooner
    • 9:11 – Iron Duke closes in and also gets stuck for a bit. The Ajax and Iron Duke are both pointing at each other so that both crews have to move cannons to the front of the ships
    • 9:15 – After the crew from the Teletub can’t walk around it anymore (because the deck was blown to bits) it surrenders. Iron Duke becomes un-stuck
    • 9:18 – Ajax becomes un-stuck. Both ships are now firing broadsides into each other
    • 9:25 – Iron Duke fires a devastating salvo into the side of the Ajax, and makes a big hole
    • 9:29 – Captain of the Ajax, IElectric_pvp surrenders, Iron duke wins and the crew gets 4 stacks of gold spread out among the crew

    <b>Next ship battle will be beginning of March. </b>All ships that took part with the exception of the schooner have been salvaged and are being repaired (the schooner sunk this morning for some reason – I’ll build a replacement). For the next battle, I’ll also be building a few other ships for people to use during the battles with similar armour scheme layouts like the Iron Duke and Ajax.

    Overview
    All ship classes allowed, with a maximum of 4 people per ship (i want more ships taking part this time). Boy i really am active in the forums this week 🙂

    When – Saturday 3rd February (next week), 8pm GMT, 3pm EST

    Where – The Freeport, Coordinates: x: -6000 y: 100 z: 3800 (same location). /warp event will be set there from Wednesday onward

    Rules for submarines:
    Submarines are only allowed to submerge for a maximum of 5 minutes at a time – you must surface and fight at some point!

    Ships who need crews (and captains):

    • Teletub – Very tanky indiaman, available for anyone to use (needs a captain rank to sail it)
    • Un-named 1 – Purpose-built ship for battles (needs a gunner rank to sail it)
    • Un-named 2 (being built) – Purpose-built brig for battles (needs a carpenter to sail it)
    • Un-named 3 (being built) – Purpose-built brig for battles (needs a carpenter to sail it)

    Message me (Maximus_Terragon) if you want to take a look at the ships. No cost, and you’ll need a crew. Some gunpowder and cobblestone is allowed, but you’ll mostly need to get your own.

    Anyone else who owns a ship at the Freeport and needs a crew, feel free to advertise

    Perhaps @maximus_terragon could implement something like this into his weekly ship battles… would be interesting, get people to compete for top positions… have teams, solo, double, 1v1 etc.

    Your tournaments sound ok, I think people would be more interested though in ship to ship combat as it is what the server is based around and wants to encourage, whereas pvp is much more skill focused- not saying there is no skill involved in navigating a ship and it’s armament well enough to defeat your foe.

    Just, pvp is a lot different, and pvppers would rather fight than the average builder (though I know this is obvious), but then again you could then offer different sort of fights, so you have a baseline event so instead people can instead compete skill based.

    Results!

    Once again a thank you to everyone who was able to turn up and make it enjoyable for us. We split this battle into two rounds again, due to a quick end to the first battle. For round 1 we had a manowar, plus two brigs, and for round 2 we had two indiamen.

    Round 1:

    We were due to have many more taking part, but due to shifting priorities *cough new star wars film*, many couldn’t turn up.

    We started of with some Brits on a manowar; the King George, two members of CLTN on a brig; the Telesub, and many many people on another small Brig named Hindenburg. The King George took a while to get going, whereas the Hindenburg decided to rush the Teletub, but was quickly disabled within about 3-4 minutes. Once the Telesub started enganging the increasingly damaged King George, the members of the Telesub announced that they needed to leave, and as such round 1 ended with no clear winner.

    Participants of Round 1:

    • King George – dimondknight998 (captain), xMadMoneyyx, 4oranage| Result: Ship damaged
    • Telesub – Minister_moo (captain), Riverwood202 | Result: Undamaged, but had no crew left to sail it
    • Hindenburg – blackshadow (captain), Sir_Quacker, Zero148, Xeuric (briefly), pugpaws | Result: Ship destroyed

    Round 2:

    Round 2 was also split into two parts. I gave the remaiming crew of the Hindenburg the Teletub (indiaman) to use, and they immediately went out and engaged the King George. Already being damaged, the King George was being obbliterated, however the crew of the Teletub was running out of crew members – as they were wearing no armour, and had no ammunition for their cannons. I paused the battle for 20 minutes, and both sides restocked and repaired.

    Part 2 went well and had the most of the action of the entire battle. The crew of the Teletub had made the ship even taller, whilst the crew of the King George focused on adding more armour, and as such making it an indiaman. The downside to that was; they didn’t have anyone to sail it, so I took the helm for a bit. After a lot of shooting, and the captain of the Teletub announcing he needed to leave, the battle was pretty much over, as we ran out of captains sadly. As far as the winner is concerned: no clear winner, as both sides ran out of people almost simultaneously.

    The following results are from the ‘part 2’ of the battle:

    Participants of Round 2:

    • Teletub – Sir_Quacker (captain), blackshadow, Zero148, pugpaws
    • King George – Maximus_Terragon (captain), 4orange, mryellowpvppants, dimondknight998, Moosolini

    Other rankings, based on my observations:

    • Most damage received as % of ship (whilst still sailing) – King George
    • Most damage dealt as % of ship – Telesub (completely took out the Hindenburg and damaged King George)
    • Most damage repaired as % of ship – King George
    • Most ships sunk/diabled – Telesub (1 ship disabled)
    • Most player kills – Unclear; many people died on both sides

    Conclusion:

    Not going to faff around much more, but this battle was a clear example of; use armour, and make sure you have a captain for your ship.

    After the end of the battle, the King George was deemed too badly damaged to save, so we gave her an honorary sinking. And no, there isn’t any loot onboard.

    Next battle:

    No idea, mid January probably.

Max has too many projects to list at present, we should probably make a list. So please congratulate Max in his well deserved promotion to RearAdmiral. Max i’m again blown away with the help you have given to the server over the years, its outstanding, I’m honoured you are part of the staff team at PirateCraft, Thank you.

    Rearadmiral is the orange names in-game, these are Admins for PirateCraft, Admins have the highest power under owner. This includes being able to remove claims, regenerate land, fly, spectate etc.

    Update from the Cove. /warp ships

    Maximus_Terragon @Maximus has kindly updated the small Dhows at /warp ships for everyone. Last night I re-made all the rentable regions so they can be bought!

    • Dhows have all been updated with minor improvements.
    • 2 New Dhows added
    • Dock1o from /warp ship2 is now at warp ships, the warp ships2 will start from dock100.

    Some deckhands wanted to know how the crew was formed so instead of explaining each time i’m just going to sent this link, sorry it’s so long xD I got bored so i made a little story lol.

    THE HISTORY OF THE PLANT NATION:

    A long time a go in the mists of February 2016 a small Plant grew on the Ibroian Peninsula. Plant was looking for a place to stay and a somewhere to call home. Then suddenly a player called Palmerageddon recruited Plant for his crew, the Ibroian Order. Plant went the Palmer’s island and found a hill of sunflowers. Plant built a house at the bottom of this hill, the walls were made of sand and cobblestone, a tall wood tower shot up along the right side of the house. After a few months Plants house was full of Armour, chickens , mine carts and even an underground tunnel that lead to a stone brick watch tower. After a while plant was told several times that the house wasn’t siege-proof. plant had no idea what a ‘siege’ was and couldn’t be bothered to look on the website and thought that ”siege and land claims are far to complicated for a small little plant me!”

    plant got fed up of all the mithering and set out to create a siege-proof  base that was the most siege-proof of them all! But plant would need some help! plant invited her friend Amazeballs1 to the server and they had a great time! they built information centers, shops, a very tall farm! and many other amazing structures! Plant lived on the first floor, the second floor of the base was shared and Amazeballs1 lived on the third. They would Skype almost everyday ad play piratecraft together!

    Soon after the creation of the base Plant and Amazeballs heard some news Palmer hadn’t been online as much as he used too. One day when he was online he came down from his Hill top Brick castle and told the pair that the Ibroian order would be moving the remainder of its active crew members to another crew. This crew as called TXO the Xanthian Order. So Plant, Amazeballs and another good crew friend Mande09 all moved over to the new crew. This was great, new crew! new sailor rank! everything was so fun!

    The leaders of TXO were Maximus_Terragon, Chailey and Thymen. After a while Amazeballs1 stopped playing because he was getting bored and wanted to play on different servers. Plant thought he was boring and thought Amazeballs1 was boring.  Since the crew island wasn’t as lively as it used to be plant was all alone, although plant was friends with the leaders of TXO it wasn’t the same. Plant asked if some new recruits from the crew wanted to live on the island so some did. Max, Chailey and Thymen Created a street of houses made especially for new members to live in, they also built a docks full of ships and boats. You see, all of this may seem good but every crew member the leaders recruited left after a day or two. No members stayed loyal to the crew. Plant wanted to recruit members herself to liven the island up a bit but she had no permission. Plant needed a crew of her own.

    After months and months of debating and thinking plant finally made the decision to create THE PLANT NATION. This would be a brand new start but also a great risk, would plant be able to handle running a crew? would plant have the money? Plant stopped worrying and left TXO. Going solo was hard at first but after a while plant gt the hang of it. Plant was recruiting so many players the crew was growing faster and faster. Still though, plant had the same problem. Every single member she recruited would be amazing, they would talk and create a house and after they created a house they would log off, and never log back on ever again. Plant always hoped with every new player recruited that this would be the player that stick would stick with the server and eventually become vice captain of the crew. But nobody ever did. A few players built AMAZING houses and ships and stayed with the crew for a few weeks but no matter what they would always get bored and leave.

    Some players would join the crew and build a tiny dirt house and leave without trusting plant in their claim. This means plant is stuck with the tiny dirt house on the island FOREVER . this is yet another reason plant claims the houses.

    TODAY:

    To this day plant has been unsuccessful in recruiting a member that has been loyal to the crew and stuck with piratecraft. Plant hopes in the future that someday she will have a Vice Captain of the crew who is active just as much as plant. But for now the search continues.

The Plant Nations main focus is to recruit new deckhands to the server and run the peninsula which is growing my the second!     Maximus_Terragon @Maximus has spent a long time doing a much needed update on the Main Cove /warp cove.

    I pushed this Live today.

    I hope this is 1 of many parts to update and improve the cove bit by bit!

    This is Max’s changelog.

    • Added new buildings to the right of your ‘office’
    • Added a few new paths and entrances
    • Added a new jail
    • Extended cannon house thing (the thing you wanted done, just need to add the signs and cannons again)
    • Edited locations of some bridges/added new ones
    • Edited colour schemes of some areas (no more boring stone everywhere)
    • Updated and changed around your office, added a cellar, more entrances
    • Updated some caves and paths to make it more user-friendly
    • General terraforming done around cove
    • Removed old prison
    • Removed a few secret passages which conflicted with extensions (temporary)
    • Removed a few cannons temporarily
    • Removed a few railway tracks which conflicted with extensions (temporary)

    My changelog:

    • Moved the Dhow docks to face outwards like the schooners, and added 2 new spots
    • Currently dhows are not spawnable and this needs to be re-created with the new position.
    • Made a giant arch where the old water used to be.

    Very cool new spawn! Quick question Max: Did you get inspiration from the flying dutchman?

    No, I did it free hand. The Flying Dutchman is a much slimmer and taller ship, quite a different design and layout. This one is much wider, has an additional gun deck submerged beneath the water, and has a completely different gallery. Its completely made up.

    I don’t know if this is intended or not, but I figured I should make sure you know about it:
    Doors can not be opened at spawn. I’ve tried it at /warp info and you can’t get inside or outside from there;
    Levers can’t be used, so the spawn border gate is not openable.
    Hope it helps!

    That’s because people kept opening and closing all of the trapdoors that were intended for decoration. I will open the doors for you, if they haven’t been opened already – it was just to stop people messing with things they shouldn’t be messing with.

    also @maximus_terragon what shaders did you use and can you give me a link to them?

    The photos used were courtesy of Simbad_Tiger. You’ll have to ask him about the shaders. As a side note, I use Sildurs Vibrant Shaders v1.161 High.
