    Its been a while since someone has done something like this. The last list that has been made was in 2018 July by Xeron. It can be found >Here<.

    This list serves as a reference point, and comparison to the PMC of 3 years 7 months ago O_O im getting old.

    Im gonna try to include as many crews as I can (I’m NOT gonna mention every crew in existence or 2 hour old deckhand crews).

    Here are the rules / key points (similar to Xeron’s and Paul’s original list)

    1. This is based off data from the 17th of February. It is entirely
    possible that people have changed crews, come back from inactivity, or founded
    new crews in the meantime.

    2. “Active Players” count as any players that were active in the
    last 30 days.

    3. Some crew descriptions from the previous list have been carried forward,
    asl ong as they are still relevant and/or the exact same crew.

    4. I tried to avoid 1 – 2 man crews and will only be including those that
    are worth of mention.

    5. The crew names are spelt as they are in-game. including typos and
    spacing issues.

    Yeah hi so this is how I sail ships, it can be a bit complicated at first, but you’ll be sailing hundreds of blocks every minute (assuming you’re sailing in open waters)

    How it works:

    • Helm signs work by rotating the ship about that point, it acts as a pivot
    • By adding two or more helm signs to a ship, you can rotate it about several different points
    • Putting two of these helm signs far apart lets you move your ship about these two far away point, and in the process you move your ship a lot further

     

    When to use this technique:

    • When travelling in reasonably straight lines (or perfect diagonals)
    • When in open waters (not a canal or small pond)
    • When you have a big ship (won’t work very well on smaller ships, not much point really)
    • If you don’t mind running back and forth a lot (with speed I or II if possible)

     

    What you’ll need:

    • Roughly a stack (64) of wood, wool, or any other block that can be used on a ship
    • 3 or 4 signs
    • A ship (duh)
    • *Optional* Speed I or II potions

     

    Step by step guide:

    1. Find your ship, make sure it can sail, pretty obvious

    2. Make a sideways pole along your ship using your stack of blocks. Don’t add it to the front of your ship, make sure you can sprint from end to end freely, and that it is along the whole length of your ship. It doesn’t really matter how far along you put the pole/ship; the ship could be in the middle, or at either end. I recommend having it at one of the ends.

    3. Place helm signs at either end of the pole, and another roughly 2/3rds down the pole (as seen in the picture above). You’ll be using the ones at either end for the majority of your moving, and any other helm signs along the ship for small adjustments (if the area you are rotating your ship in doesn’t allow you to rotate the whole rod + ship, you may be able to rotate it about one of the helm signs in the middle of the pole)

    4. Pilot your ship, drink your speed potions (if you have any), and run to the front of the pole. Use the helm sign at the front to rotate it twice so that you are now facing the opposite direction. You will have rotated the ship by 180 degrees:

    5. Run to the other end of the pole (that should now be pointing in the direction you’re travelling), and click it twice to rotate your ship again by 180 degrees. It should now be facing in the same direction as when you started. In the image below, imagine that the whole ship is facing the other way (i took all the pictures with crazymoneyy while the ship was stationary, thanks crazy <3)

    6. Hopefully (providing there was enough space for the ship to rotate) you will have moved your ship quite a far distance. If the pole you made was 64 blocks long, and put a helm sign at either end, it means that after rotating the ship twice (it will take you roughly 10 seconds), you will have moved 128 blocks forward. Thats a lot better than the standard cruise speed of 4 blocks every 2 seconds (20 blocks after 10 seconds).

    This means that, assuming you are in open waters, in 1 minute you will have traveled:

    • 120 blocks in cruise mode (depending on the ship)
    • Roughly 140 blocks in direct control mode
    • At least 750 blocks using my helm sign method

    Thats a helluva lot faster

    Results

    Forgot to make a results post for the ship battle at the end of March, so I’m doing a double whammy here. Largest number of ships in battle, and utter chaos for me trying to get it to work haha – don’t worry, things will be different once the arena is created. A post will follow up on that shortly. Thanks for taking part everyone.

    Both battles were split into 2 parts, with a roughly 15-20 minute break after 30 minutes of fighting. I can’t remember much from ship battle #9, and im really tired, so I’m only going to cover results. I know lots of people recorded this time – so that should be awesome.

    Winners (Ship Battle #9):

    It was a boring 4-way draw to put it short. I’m thinking of new ways to determine a winner, so I trialed a % of ship left victory method for ship battle #10. Due to the chaos and uncertainty of this particular battle, and the outcome, no winner will be declared and the ships will not be added to the tally of winning ships.

    It was officially a 4-way tie again, so i’m not adding any names to the tally of ‘winners’ in the description. However, I did measure the % of the orginal ship still left once the battle was over and handed out prizes accordingly. These are as follows:

    1. Phantom Narwhal – 93.4%
    2. Giulio Cesare (second one) – 85.5%
    3. Shadow Voyager – 80.2%
    4. Iron Duke (second one) – 72.4%

     

    An apology.

    I am aware that a lot of people enjoyed the battle, however I know of some individuals who may have misunderstood the rules and as such blown up ships with TNT, and/or killed crew members via boarding. This rule will be enforced differently in future, so sorry.

    I would also like to apologize for the chaos, and the ‘unfair advantage’ that some crews had by having a brand new copy of their ship copied in during the break. Future battles will be held differently, and more organized with me being on full-time ‘ship battle moderator’ – so i won’t be taking part in ships battles in future directly.

    Congratulations to all teams that survived the onslaught, and thanks for taking part. I’m looking forward to the screenshots/videos people have recorded! Godsy managed to record the whole battle and he may be able to use some of the material for a piratecraft trailer!

    There will be a followup post in a few days explaining my intentions for future battles – including how to make it more organised, fair, and hopefully fun. I’ll have a chat with godsy, and lay out the possibilities for you guys. :))

    Results

    As far as I could tell from the number of people there, this was the largest ship battle ever on the server, and buy was it a hell of a lot of fun – even i took out a ship with a small crew. Thanks to everyone who turned up and took part, and a special thank you to MysticTitan who helped moderate the battle with me. This was also the first battle in which all the ships were built (as least in part) by me – only one I didn’t fully build was the Teletub.

    The battle was split into two halves: pre-break and after a 10 minute break. Also, it was a free-for all, no teams this time, no matter how misleading the ship names are.

    Winners (based on the last surviving ship):

    I’m probably missing a lot of people. I know we had well over 30 people there at one point, either taking part or spectating. The two unnamed ships held out very long, but they were both eventually deemed out, so I took out the Teletub and invited any remaining crew members to join me. We didn’t last too long.

    Other rankings (based on my observations):

    • Most damage received as % of ship – [unnamed schooner] (looked like a mini Teletub at the end)
    • Most damage dealt as % of ship – [HMS Iron Duke]
    • Most damage repaired as % of ship – [unnamed schooner]
    • Most ships sunk/disabled – HMS Iron Duke (3) Was difficult to tell as all ships shot each other
    • Most player kills – HMS Iron Duke (many)
    • Strangest ‘ship’ – Jet Fighter (it was a plane, and yes it shouldn’t be allowed but it was very fragile so i made an exception. huangR still did quite a bit of damage in it)

    Timeline

    Rather than doing the usual damage report and whatnot (and due to lack of time) I’ll just be summarizing key events in order. I’ll be doing this in GMT time, and these are estimates – I didn’t go around with a notepad and write everything down, I have better things to do. For cannon layout, (2,10,4) means 2 at the front, 10 on each side, 4 at the back.

    • 7:10 – Blackshadow969’s ship is sunk before the battle and I build him a new schooner
    • 7:45 – The Narwhal announces it will not be taking part in the battle
    • 8:00 – People start preparing the ships
    • 8:08 – Official start of the battle – all ships set off (except the Fighter Jet and Teletub)
      • Iron Duke (0,22,0) – Indiaman with heavy side armour,  44 auto-fire/manual cannons + two mortars at the front , but very little rear armour and no front or rear cannons
      • Ajax (2,16,4) – Manowar with heavy side armour, and reinforced decks, 38 manual cannons, but lacks front and rear armour
      • Frigate (2,5,3) – Frigate with decent side armour, 15 cannons, but lacks firepower
      • Schooner (0,3,1) – Fast little schooner with a large crew (and respawn point!), 7 cannons, but lacks armour
      • Jet Fighter (6,0,0) – Schooner that also functions as a plane, 6 forward facing cannons, but lacks armour
      • Teletub (6,7,2) – Indiaman with great survivability, 22 cannons, but is ugly, slow, lacks decks, and is still damaged from last battle
    • 8:10 – Iron Duke engages the schooner
    • 8:13 – Ajax engages the schooner
    • 8:17 – huangR’s Fighter Jet finally enters the battle. The schooner takes heavy damage, the frigate is damaged by the Ajax
    • 8:23 – The Fighter Jet is disabled and out of the battle after taking just a few hits.
    • 8:25 – The schooner is technically completely disabled and the Iron Duke starts engaging the Ajax and frigate. I pilot the frigate, and try to escape unsuccessfully.
    • 8:26 – Ajax fires a broadside into the Iron Duke, destroying many cannons
    • 8:30 – 10 minute repair time – Due to heavy damage received by the smaller ships, and notable damage on both of the larger ships, we have a mini break.
    • 8:39 – Ships move away from each other to the corners of the arena to prepare for an end of the break. Couple of people have to leave, and new crew members join.
      • Iron Duke – Both sides repaired and re-inforced, fixed redstone and cannons, and patched the giant hole in the side
      • Ajax – Deck repaired, some cannons added, and armour repaired
      • Frigate – Removed front cannons and added cannons to the sides instead, added a lot of armour at the front to tank shots from the Iron Duke
      • Schooner – They somehow managed to take a bunch of random blocks and spit all over what was left of the ship and added cannons – but hey it worked!
    • 8:40 – End of 10 minute break
    • 8:45 – Iron Duke engages the schooner again, and the Ajax engages the frigate
    • 8:50 – The schooner is out of the battle, although some people keep on fighting from within whats left of it
    • 8:52 – The frigate is abandoned and surrenders, the Ajax and Iron Duke start heading toward each other
    • 8:53 – I take out the Teletub for the shits and giggles (it wasn’t going to win anyway, it only had 3 cannons, and was still broken after the last battle). Bunch of people from the two broken ships join me
    • 9:00 – Heavy fighting between the Ajax and Iron Duke, the Teletub joins in but mostly just takes a lot of damage, because all the cannons are knocked out
    • 9:10 – Ajax is stuck on the wreck of the schooner
    • 9:11 – Iron Duke closes in and also gets stuck for a bit. The Ajax and Iron Duke are both pointing at each other so that both crews have to move cannons to the front of the ships
    • 9:15 – After the crew from the Teletub can’t walk around it anymore (because the deck was blown to bits) it surrenders. Iron Duke becomes un-stuck
    • 9:18 – Ajax becomes un-stuck. Both ships are now firing broadsides into each other
    • 9:25 – Iron Duke fires a devastating salvo into the side of the Ajax, and makes a big hole
    • 9:29 – Captain of the Ajax, IElectric_pvp surrenders, Iron duke wins and the crew gets 4 stacks of gold spread out among the crew

    <b>Next ship battle will be beginning of March. </b>All ships that took part with the exception of the schooner have been salvaged and are being repaired (the schooner sunk this morning for some reason – I’ll build a replacement). For the next battle, I’ll also be building a few other ships for people to use during the battles with similar armour scheme layouts like the Iron Duke and Ajax.

    After an evening of deliberating, and in light of Keto’s recent forum post, I have decided to run, along with CrazyMoneyy, for PM and VPM respectively. We want to bring back interaction with other crews, PvP, and a new BE noob crew, along the lines of BETC (idk I forgot the name). We’re also going to strip down all of BE’s rules to no more than five rules, and simplify ranks.

    Ma boi CrazyMoneyy and I have decided to run as VPM and PM of the BE respectively. Vote for us if you want:

    Walls, Walls and even more Walls Better crew defense 

    Every marine will have to be a decent pvper with god gear, pots, etc, with officers drawn from the crew’s pool of OP pvpers such as monks and flea. All crew pvpers must have teamspeak and discord voicechat for better communication during fights.

    Rules and Ranks

    No more than five rules will exist within the crew, at present we have wayyyy too many, I think three pages or something insane. I will funnel down all crew hierarchy to only eight crew ranks, excluding the government, to make everything more simple.

    Much more tolerance to Pirates

    We appear to have a put a taboo on the w0rd “Pirate”, whilst signing NAPs with a ton of nublet noob killers. BE will enjoy a friendly relationship with pirates, fighting alongside them to kill people who are actually complete and utter *@!#*!.

    Hives

    New players will be allocated to relatively small, remote, and well defended fortresses, known as hives, in groups of 3-4 to begin with. Each hive will contain individual rooms for each member, a small farm, chest rooms etc. Hive members can turn what was once a small area into a larger base, with more rooms, farms, and members, and in turn hives can turn into very large, safe buildings for new players.  A more senior ranked player, like a marine, will head the hive. The idea is that deckies and cadets have a decent level of protection and are safer than most other new players, which will in turn attract more players.

    Less NAPs

    We have signed NAPs with quite a few nooby crews who often call upon our protection and whine at us the rest of the time. NAPs will be much harder to get and all existing NAPs will be reviewed.

    A complete purge of inactive members

    Anyone with an inactivity of more than 2 months, excluding well known players such as TimHuisman, will be kicked from the crew.

    Legions

    If a captain can muster two or more marines, and has the support of a government member, they can raise a legion. Each legion has it’s own well defended fortress, (often the Captain’s personal base) and a stockpile of god gear, pots, etc, as well as it’s own unique colour, which it’s member should wear on their cape or shield. For example, Monks could raise the Monkey Loyalists, using his ocean battery as the legionary fortress, and have a yellow banana cape as his colour. If three marines can get together, with at least one government’s members support, and raise a legion, the marines may decide which one of them is promoted to captain. Raising a legion in this way is the only path to promotion, and thus marines will be encouraged to train up and gear new recruits.

    Religion

    Spicy memeism will become the BE’s official religion. Anyone who has a problem with this will be played the following video at 3x speed on repeat.

    Walls, Walls and even more Walls Better crew defense 

    Every marine will have to be a decent pvper with god gear, pots, etc, with officers drawn from the crew’s pool of OP pvpers such as monks and flea. All crew pvpers must have teamspeak and discord voicechat for better communication during fights.

    Rules and Ranks

    No more than five rules will exist within the crew, at present we have wayyyy too many, I think three pages or something insane. I will funnel down all crew hierarchy to only eight crew ranks, excluding the government, to make everything more simple.

    Much more tolerance to Pirates

    We appear to have a put a taboo on the w0rd “Pirate”, whilst signing NAPs with a ton of nublet noob killers. BE will enjoy a friendly relationship with pirates, fighting alongside them to kill people who are actually complete and utter *@!#*!.

    Hives

    New players will be allocated to relatively small, remote, and well defended fortresses, known as hives, in groups of 3-4 to begin with. Each hive will contain individual rooms for each member, a small farm, chest rooms etc. Hive members can turn what was once a small area into a larger base, with more rooms, farms, and members, and in turn hives can turn into very large, safe buildings for new players.  A more senior ranked player, like a marine, will head the hive. The idea is that deckies and cadets have a decent level of protection and are safer than most other new players, which will in turn attract more players.

    Less NAPs

    We have signed NAPs with quite a few nooby crews who often call upon our protection and whine at us the rest of the time. NAPs will be much harder to get and all existing NAPs will be reviewed.

    A complete purge of inactive members

    Anyone with an inactivity of more than 2 months, excluding well known players such as TimHuisman, will be kicked from the crew.

    Legions

    If a captain can muster two or more marines, and has the support of a government member, they can raise a legion. Each legion has it’s own well defended fortress, (often the Captain’s personal base) and a stockpile of god gear, pots, etc, as well as it’s own unique colour, which it’s member should wear on their cape or shield. For example, Monks could raise the Monkey Loyalists, using his ocean battery as the legionary fortress, and have a yellow banana cape as his colour. If three marines can get together, with at least one government’s members support, and raise a legion, the marines may decide which one of them is promoted to captain. Raising a legion in this way is the only path to promotion, and thus marines will be encouraged to train up and gear new recruits.

    Religion

    Spicy memeism will become the BE’s official religion. Anyone who has a problem with this will be played the following video at 3x speed on repeat.

    Ma boi CrazyMoneyy and I are going to stand as VPM and PM respectively. Our goals are aimed at improving the BE’s status, changing it’s recent introvertcy and improving it’s personal wealth.

    Walls everywhere  Crew defense

    We’re going to make it a requirement of everybody serving in the navy to have discord and teamspeak, to use during battles, and at least a small arsenal of god gear, pots etc.

    Attitudes towards  Piracy

    We’re going to encourage a far more positive approach towards pirates and raiders, in order to prosper alongside them.

    Stop bureaucracy

    The government will be far less bureacratic. Any government member, including the Admiral, may declare war on a crew at any time (with reason). NAPs will be much less easy to obtain, to decrease the number of random noob crews with immunity. All existing NAPs will be revisited by the PM and VPM, who will make a decision.

    Public influence

    The BE will host regular ship battles, PvP matches, etc with other crews, and friendship between members of BE and other crews will be encouraged.

    Rules and Ranks

    All existing rules will be looked at and stripped way down to no more than five rules, since right now we have three pages of rules or something ridiculous.

    Ranks will be revisited, with many being removed, to create no more than eight ranks (excluding government members), and kewl nicknames will be added on the end of ranks, just cuz.

    Anime is luv, Anime is lyfe 

    Anime will be the BE’s official religion. Anybody found out to not be worshipping it will be ganked by Monks.
