Another good idea is that you could have a shop that buys the ores and sells food to the workers. If they want better tools they need to turn in a certain amount of ores in order to get like a diamond pickaxe or something.

I believe that workers should be payed in wages with real money rather than stone 25 cents for every stack. I believe this is fair and good because a worker using iron picks could probably mine a few thousand blocks per day we could also set up a nether colony for fast extraction of lava to smelt. This will make it nice and fast and also bring in many other minerals and have a nice and cheap income of lapiz to continue fuel my book making.

Im just a deckie, but maybe u could sometimes use silk touch and normal picks? Silk touch would be more expensive, but quicker.
