    I would like to discuss the possibility of altering (Such as lowering the amount needed) or replacing the exp requirement for something else to rank up for Carpenter, Gunner, and Boatswain rank. I believe that the ranking system is superb except for maybe the exp requirement because many people find it hard to get a sufficient amount of exp to rank up, or keep it long enough to accumulate to the set amount. If you could look into this idea, I would be extremely grateful for your insight. Thank you for your time.

    yea i founded really hard to rank up to carpentor and been affraid of death or someone taking your singh! inted of xp how about kills zombie kills to be especifike make them like 150 so its hard

    I know the “proper” way to get the required XP is to buy/borrow it using XP shops. I haven’t completed this task yet myself, but before I learnt of this I tried very hard to amass that 60XP for carpenter independently and without using a grindy XP farm. I did manage to get over 45XP twice before dying, which was a massive waste of time and resources and pretty hilarious in retrospect.

    hah no. No changes will be made to the ranking system this is not the first time that people have complained about the xp requirement and to be honest, it is not hard to rank up at all. Plenty of players have ranked up before you is it not possible for you to do the same?

    At sailor rank I realized i needed xp so i began storing and saving up xp in trade signs. I bought a share in an xp farm (which is a good thing to do) for $250 and became friends with the owner of the xp farm (Xadiez). I used that xp farm and now I have a ton of xp (139 levels). Plus, if you really need xp for rank up super badly all you need is a couple of levels and vote a few times. (vote while you have level 30 and there is possibility of you winning 10 xp levels which makes it level 40 in a flash)

    Just keep on saving up levels in trade signs…

    It is not hard so get working…

    Go look at the economy tutorials page and learn how to store your xp in a sign (but please wait until after the shop conversion because all signs are about to lose their values with the conversion)

    Ranking is suppose to be hard…

    If it was really easy there wouldn’t be a point in having a ranking system.

    Although if you can think of another requirement that would be suited then I can consider it, these are the options to check for:

    Stat Description Variables
    Block break All broken blocks with their Datavalues itemId itemData breaking
    Block place All placed blocks with their Datavalues itemId itemData breaking
    Death All deaths with their causes cause entity(boolean, true is safest)
    Kill All kills with their causes type
    Move Walking, sailing, riding a train, on the back of a pig or by horse. type (0=walk, 1=boat, 2=train, 3=pig, 4=pig in train, 5=horse)
    Playtime Time played in seconds
    Arrows Arrows shot
    Xp gained Total XP gained
    Joins Total times joined
    Fish catched Total fish Caught (Yes, I know it’s caught.)
    Damage taken Total damage taken
    Times kicked Total times kicked
    Tools broken Total Tools broken
    Eggs thrown Total eggs thrown
    Items crafted Total items crafted
    Omnomnom Total times had a snack
    On fire Total times being on fire
    Words said Total words said
    Commands done Total commands done
    Votes Total times voted for the server (uses Votifier)
    Worldchange Total times worlds changed

    Voting a certain amount of times? Would be neat. Also, maybe a rank to fill between Gunner and boatswain. Only about 6 or 7 people actually have 30 day playtime, which makes the rank incredibly hard to get. So possibly a midway rank at 20 days playtime?

    I’m on board with number of times voted, though I think it should be in a variable of 3. So something like 45 votes would be about 15 days of voting 3 times and earning your rewards.

    And on that note: if you DO vote, getting EXP is extremely easy! I got my 100 levels in just under a week from bashing mobs (not a mob grinder, just running around in the dark), collecting quartz/coal/lapis (these are big EXP-givers), and receiving 10+EXP levels from voting.

    I also think we do need more ranks between Gunner and Boatswain. 10 hours of gameplay to 24 isn’t hard. 24 hours to 3 days is pretty easy, too. But jumping from  7 days to -30- leaves room for maybe a 15-day or 20-day player. Pretty sure @Athenmos12 had a thread about this before, with suggested names for the new ranks.

    None of these alternatives require any skill at all in-game, Its XP for a reason, you need to actually play to earn it, and stay alive.

    This is why it goes up higher and higher.

    I like the XP requirement, it involves some very minor effort of “playing”, Voting & speaking are not anywhere close to an alternative.

    Although I fully agree with @Verihax that we need more filler ranks in-between, the only problem is, that There are no more extra permissions or extra we can give these extra ranks without being unbalanced, I don’t think it was wise me originally giving out more than one sethome, people do not use these as intended.

    My suggestion is this for replacing/altering the carpenter, gunner, and boatswain xp requirement:

    • Carpenter: Place about 500 or so blocks of wooden planks and 500 or so log blocks (Already have the appropriate break 700 logs requirement), craft, and maybe collect 2500 xp total.
    • Gunner: Kill about 250 Creepers, shear about 100 sheep, mine 300 iron ore, fire 350 arrows, and maybe collect 50 xp levels.
    • Boatswain: Place about 500 blocks of wool, place 1000 blocks of wooden planks, travel 50,000 blocks by boat, and maybe 60 xp levels.
    • Remember, this is only to replace/alter the xp requirement, not the whole thing.

    Suggestion for the new rank, in order for it to be balanced. Same perms as gunner, however, I have an idea; The higher ranks have shorter TP cool downs. So if a deckhand’s is 40 seconds, next is cadet with 35, sailor with 30, gunner with 25, New rank (quartermaster?) 20, Boatswain 15 second cool down timer. This prevents new players harassing others by tping everywhere, and gives a reward that will be used quite often for more experienced players, who are less likely to abuse it. Kit could be alcohol, and a perm would be /drunk? That would be funny, seeing all the experienced players getting drunk. At 15-20days playtime, its probably time to have a laugh.

    Anyways, I like that idea. Completely agree the gap between Gunner and Boatswain is a bit wide.

    New Rank:

    Brewmaster (alternately Drunken Pirate)

    Kit could be some bottles, a single glowstone dust, some random brew ingredients (preferably non-replantables like grass, etc), bread, and a single brew of the choosing of Gods; preferably one of the lesser brews (like spicy rum as apposed to golden, etc).

    Requirements to rank up would be time, placing a cauldron or brew stand, or building a barrel. It would also require something a little harder (like a middle point for xp, or if possible # of pvp kills WHILE DRUNK!).

     

    Here’s the main thing though. This rank, while bridging the gap, would not be mandatory (if possible). It’d be a rank accessible after carpenter or gunner; but would not necessarily have to be completed before boatswain. Kind of like an optional side-quest rank for people who want to enjoy the plugin (not everyone would want to HAVE to use the brew plugin, especially underage members.)

     

    The idea is to give a completely unnecessary rank (so no worries about being too OP) while still giving people the option to unlock a brewing kit and do something while they are trying to get to boatswain. It’s something to bridge the gap, without making things unbalanced and it gets people to use the plugin a bit more.
