ships and there speed

OK this kinda bugs me a lot. This is a pirate server where ships are supposed to be used often. almost no ships are used at all so i asked people why ships were not used as often and a common answer is that they were slower then the Vanilla MC boat. i was wondering if you could tweak the speed of the boats so they are at least as fast or faster then the Vanilla MC boat.

This has been brought up many times and I’ll reiterate my suggestion which was tweeking the golden hoe to have more speed but leaving cruise the same for battles so that we can still move about during battle. This said I understand anything like this will have to wait for a bit more stability. I think right now a speed boost to ships would cause a lot of lag.
