If you make shops protected areas, people will abuse the safety mechanic and cause even more grief. No one likes being ambushed while carrying valuables, I grant you that – but that IS how pirates make their living! The shop owners are solely responsible for providing a safe environment in their towns. They earn well enough from the customers who go their to spend their dough. If safety isn’t provided, the customers will go elsewhere. Basic market principle.

‘Well, how can the shops be protected when the shopkeepers are offline?’ you might ask. The answer: Now that iron doors have been implemented, it’s possible for players to stop more than one person from entering their shop at a time:

If some clever player thinks he can sabotage trade by hogging the room or pushing an animal inside, all it needs is a service entrance that can only be opened by the shop owner and his trustees.

Or you can just do it like azuries at her spawner when you have a small shop: place hoppers under a carpet so every drop will get collected by you.
This would make it useless for pirates to atack people since they would get nothing out of that.

However i think this is fairly expensive.

Sting it’d be very expensive; its not just the hoppers on the floor but all hoppers have to lead SOMEWHERE and for that to be safe it’d likely be several hoppers leading to said safe room. I agree it would discourage people from killing for loot; but the fact of the matter is these trollish types are spawn killing, meaning they often don’t get loot from it. They are doing it JUST to be mean to the other player and discourage non pvp folk from being in towns.

Actually guys most of those r lies, we raided surfergirl once came on and spawned there. I don’t harass ppl, they harass me. People like 3kaj have sieged me and killed me so many times right when I spawn. Like u guys said move on with it. But my general rule is, if u want something,kill the person for it. We r pirates! U guys can report me and say dorkito101 was hurting me well, man up I am a pirate. U decide if u wanna be a pirate.
