Hi Everyone!
So the idea has been tossed around about creating custom server pots. I think this is a wonderful idea and I would like to work on them soon. I have some ideas swirling around in my head, but I would also love player input as well. Any ideas and suggestions would be wonderful and taken into consideration.
The “potions” will be in the same format as brew making. I will make sure you get more bang for you buck then normal pots. They will also not have any hidden negative effects nor will they make you drunk. Also these potions can have the effects of normal pots but combinations and increased length etc.
Like I said please leave your input. But leave out any drama.

All players and staff should take part in a consistent balance of potions to make sure they don’t break the game, (pvp or any other form of gameplay). I fully support your idea. +1
Suggestions:
1.) Potion Brainstorm + Balancing
Make two threads, (one for potion ideas, another for potion balancing). Not every potion suggested and implemented is going to be perfect, so some may need to be upgraded or nerfed. This is why it’s essential to have a potion balancing thread for future potions. Balancing would include materials needed, brewing time, potion effects and potion effect duration. If all of these various aspects can be tweaked individually, you can end up making the perfect potions for pvp or otherwise, making a perfect puzzle piece fit in the server’s gameplay mechanics. So balancing is necessary.
This thread can be for brainstorming potion ideas and giving them shape by suggesting materials needed, brewing time, potion effects and duration. After we’ve come up with some potions and they’re implemented in the game, we can test their power levels. If any of them are too OP or too weak, we can discuss boosts and nerfs in a the second thread, the balance thread.
2.) Potion Ideas:
Haste (I and II?) / Strength II + Speed II / Fire Resistance + Absorption / Regen II + Strength II / Water Breathing + Night Vision / Poison II + Instant Damage II (throwing if possible)

an idea could be to make a potion of absorption by “brewing” normal golden apples. For example, if u brew two golden apples it could result in getting a potion that gives +4 hearts instead of 2 +2 hearts.

You throw it and when it detonates all players hit will be knocked back 3-4 blocks and have blindness for 5 seconds. 4 gunpowder, 8 ink sacks, 2 redstone. if cook in a cauldron for 5 minutes (i’m assuming that’s how it works), and run it in a brewing stand once (I’m also going to assume that’s how that works)

Scurvy splash potion – gives wither effect – made from mob heads and rotten flesh
Seasickness splash potion – nausea and slowness – made from ink sacs and prismarine shards
Pegleg splash potion – slowness and strength – made from wooden fences

So I propose ink sacs to do blindness, idk what for haste, mining fatigue would be haste pot + fermented spider eye, etc.
(Note: Fermented Spider Eye reverses the effect of potions in normal gameplay, so thats why I chose it.)
Perhaps a health boost/absorption potion by brewing 2 gold apples to get +5 hearts, just to make it a bit better than eating them on their own?
Personally, I would love a saturation potion, to fill food and keep it full awhile.
Combining effects is pretty cool, but its a little hard to balance. If we make some super-op potion balanced by making it really hard to brew, people will just brew all the needed potions separately, so it will become obsolete. At the same time, we can’t make it too cheap, either, or else people would just brew it to get all the effects for a lower price. I suppose the benefit of combined effects would be taking less time to drink, but we still need to be careful not to make it cost too much.
Also, we should definitely put it up for a vote, as otherwise, powerful players may just choose the potion effects that they can make easily, and that would be most beneficial to them.
As long as we watch out for these possible pitfalls, I’m sure we can make this an amazing feature, and I am very excited for it.
Also, one personal question I have: Do we have to stay within Minecraft’s own effects, or can we think of new ones?
By that, I don’t mean adding an actual new potion effect, I mean, can we have, say, lava appear near you when you drink a potion? Because that would just be really cool.
January 2, 2016 at 1:09 am #26201These sound really awesome but these potions really need to be watched because they could get really OP if you throw all these types of potions on you at once. I have a way to stop this and still keep the potions. There could be a Sickness you could catch if you drink to many potions at once, like weakness,slowness,blindness, ect.
some thoughts (regen 2-what ever gapples regen is)
make regen 2, add blaze powder makes idk then add another regen 2 that makes regen 3. Put regen 3 with blaze powder that makes idk and then add regen 3 again that makes regen 4. Might be a bad idea but what the heck. idk could = some potion called {Harming or what ever.
Also There should be a molitaz Cocktail potion. I don’t know how to spell that but When you through it It could make a 5 by 5 area a fire! Lighting Strike anyone, there could be a potion that sends down lighting on someone.

A Virus, it will cause Weakness, Slowness, maybe Nausea and Poison or Wither depending on how extreme it is. The idea was that it would be splashed on a player, and (Possibly, this is just an idea, it may not work) anyone who may come within a certain radius of the infected player, will also get similar effects. Like I said, this is just an idea that I have had for while, it may or may not work out.
