    As a reference to the planned roadproject and the discussion about port royal.

    Even if we have places that are called towns i don’t really think that we have established communities in those towns or traderoutes or anything that would be characteristic for towns in Real Life, despite of the fact that we have some inhabitants.
    Since we are getting more and more people to join the server and it isn’t as empty as it was some moths ago i would like to establish “real” towns or at least settlements.

    One of the problems is that new players don’t know what to do on the server and so they get angry and often leave.
    If we could provide them some advice in some settlements to show them the ways of brewing and sailing we could organize.
    At first we would only have villages but as we grew larger the villages could become real towns populated by many people.

    Furthermore those towns could even produce rare goods in a high amount if they specialise on something.
    Of course many single players have tons of minerals or rare brews but imagine how high our ressource output could be if we had a village of miners and not just one single miner.
    Also this counts for most rather uncommon ressources like cactii or vines that could be produced extremly fast if at every time of the day someone in the settlement could harvest the fields and replant them.

    Now i just want to say that it could be great for our server and i would suggest stopping the roadcontest until we have at least one village running that could be a destination for travellers.

    And if people think that i should do more in this direction: Yes i know i should and i will as soon as i get to rankup to a carpenter i will use my second sethome to establish a small village to give new players advice.

    All we need are leaders willing to take on a group of dedicated players to work together, there are loads of groups of 2-3 players that work together, they tend to already be friends. I don’t see that many people taking in new players, or have a list of things for them to do once they have joined.

    It would be great if these small groups of players would band together and all work on one project. There will be one group made when I band together people for this road system, first we need a design.

    Its easy enough to invite new players into a settlement, but they will need to have specific jobs, they could be:

    • Collect wood
    • Collect a specific ore for the town
    • Road Builder/Maintainer/Landscaper tidy’s up terrain that’s been destroyed, plants forests
    • Farmer/Butcher – All animals, builds new pens, manages existing animals, kills and replenishes stock, all food gets put into a public food store.
    • Blacksmith (makes tools for everyone)
    • Potions (makes potions for everyone)
    • Ingredients, This player goes and collects ingredients for potions

    Oh ok…i see your idea just to fill some more things to the list one could do in a settlement:

    • Brewer(this alcoholplugin needs specialists)
    • traders(on land and sea if we want to get ships and roads working)
    • speicialists(people that produce rare things that can be unique for example pro enchanters or authors)

    @GodsDead Here’s some ideas: Farmer, Rancher, Warrior, fisherman, Merchant, Mason, alchemist, chef, blacksmith, miner, explorer,lumberjack, inventor, hunter. All of these rely on each other such as blacksmith relies on miner miner relies on chef for food chef rellies on rancher hunter and farmer, all of those rely on explorer to find land and hunting grounds,miner relies on explorer for new caves, everyone relies on mason/lumberjack for houses, etc. etc. etc.

    I need to fix the Wiki so then we can have this written up as one big list of “jobs ideas” for new members of a settlement, that way you could send them the list and they could pick a job on it and know thier duties.

    Does someone want to write this list up into a proper page?

    well if new people need things to do, theres a list and half of jobs at the merc camp.

     

    we also do some advertising for player jobs, so if you need something doing but cant find the staff. let us know and we will get you the staff.
