If I would help with this I would have 2 parts of the tutorial.
The Basics
these would include all the features you need to know about piratecraft.
Advanced tips
this would be a long advanced tips tutorial created by veteran players of the server on how to get started. This would stop the average “how can I do this” questions entirely. Some of the most important ones in my opinion to explain to new players are:
Look out for territories: some players are very territorial and will attack people near their base. Building within render distance of a base is ILLEGAL and building near a base will get you attacked by the owner of that base. Use /map to find a good place to build a base.
Build a base and claim it BEFORE building a ship. Before making a ship, make sure you have a place to dock it first! Use materials such as stone bricks and logs to build a secure and GOOD LOOKING base. This will keep you safe from pirates and stop the community from being mad about the little stone box you made. Also don’t use pressure plates or wooden doors. Have a secure Bunker in case of attackers. Cannons can be used to blow you up through your walls. Even if they are siege proof.
get secure and don’t attack anyone: the silent players are the ones that come out on top. Most new players never make it on this server. Make sure you have plenty of defenses for your base. And don’t leave your roof open. People can use ships as siege towers to climb over your ship and a select few have elytra which allows them to fly over your walls. Use clever traps to catch enemies off guard and kill them. Some may be harder to kill than others so don’t be afraid to go overkill with the traps. And remember to LOCK YOUR CHESTS by placing a solid block on them.
Find a crew as soon as you can support yourself: don’t be intimidated by the large /rank requirement time. Some people on this server have reached thousands of hours of playtime. The rank times are just to separate the new players from the not so new. Most people are fully established by the time they become sailor. So aim to have a complete base with enough armor and weapons to go into battle once you reach sailor so you can join a crew.
Keep an eye out for crafty players: some players on this server are very skilled at raiding bases and even more skilled at combat. Learn who those players are and try to get on their good side if you can (Sometimes the only way is by not letting them know you exist). Remember to time your swings and try to land critical hits by swinging while coming down from a jump.
Never underestimate your reputation on the server: reputation is a powerful force on the server. Make sure you don’t attack new players for no reason, don’t trash talk people, and don’t get mad when you get killed. The best way to avoid being attacked is to make sure you have people who can help you. The longer you stay here the more people will notice you. Which brings good and bad things. Don’t donate immediately as people think you will be an established player who can support themselves and will take the opportunity to attack you.

July 30, 2016 at 11:19 am #38539You can count on me to design and build buildings and ships for the new spawn! I wouldn’t mind leading (part of) the project.
Please let me know if I could help 😉July 30, 2016 at 3:06 pm #38544July 31, 2016 at 5:03 am #38592sounds cool i want to help be a builder in this project

July 31, 2016 at 12:47 pm #38601videos are a great idea, let’s keep to one thing at a time though! We need both. Still need a new with a vision, someone that can visualise the same type of idea I’ve described, once we have a leader we can start this!
Edit: Talking to the build team @TimHuisman may be up for leading this, I will keep this thread updated, please do keep posting if you are interested in building/leading, or even just sign writing, or writing alone, we could have a wiki with all signs pre-written.
July 31, 2016 at 5:55 pm #38613I’d like to help with the building for this.

July 31, 2016 at 6:28 pm #38614Good luck with the project, it can result very nicely. My summer is ending sooner and for the next months I will rarely appear on the server due to personal commitments, so I won’t be able to offer my slice of help, unluckily. Get creative, keep it clearer than clear and more simple than simple. Signs always camouflage between all that wood at /warp cove, so underline as much as you can the tutorial path in this new project, maybe with coloured blocks. The smaller the place, the easier to orientate. A new player wants to play and not lose time in finding his way in the tutorial. Super short texts, super fast tutorials. For everything else, there will always be online guides and videos.
The list of things to show in the slideshow looks more than good, both text and content.
I was wondering: my original post talked about static, still scenes for the server presentation, because if two new players join at the same time and the slideshow starts for both of them, wouldn’t automated mechanics like cannons or bridges break in the process?July 31, 2016 at 10:12 pm #38620The story could be that they are being release from prison ( maybe for the crime of pissing off a mod) and they are being told the rules so they know how to not go back to prison.
That way you can lead them from one area to another as they go through the process
August 1, 2016 at 8:17 am #38640Ill echo Tim on this one, I’d be happy to build and design, and help lead or ‘co-lead’. I don’t have anything better to do.
<span style=”line-height: 1.5;”>I’m not too confident in the area surrounding the tutorials or use of plugins, so another fellow would need to sort that out.</span>
