Hey everyone it’s me…
Anyway, I have made this graphic that shows the crews and their allies/rivals. It is based off the active crew list. This is probably quite a bit outdated by now but this was more of a trial run. Should I make more? Could I do anything to make it better?
Well I hope you enjoy anyway 🙂
*The circles are now transparent and their scale is based off the area so it’s more accurate 😉

I can't stand vinegarJanuary 8, 2017 at 10:37 am #45743This is great, well done.
I wonder how it would look with Odi’s crew on it, who declared war on everyone. We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.
-Benjamin FranklinJanuary 8, 2017 at 10:41 am #45744well mad, you could ask anyone in Gbldm, as they have reached the max number of rivals. because that’s apparently a thing. im fairly certain they beat odi in the “rivaling everyone” contest. if that was ever a competition at least…

If I am not mistaken, each of the circle radiuses are based on the amount of members. I believe you should create separate, similar diagrams with different crew data, such as:Diagram where the radius is based on the amount of members (that you have)
Diagram where the radius is based on the amount and dimension of active settlements (approximate)
Diagram where the radius is based on the amount, dimension and usage of ships (approximate)
Diagram where the radius is based on all-time historical influence (approximate)
Diagram where the radius is based on present influence (approximate)
Diagram where the radius is based on longevity
Diagram where the radius is based on pvp killstreak
Diagram where the radius is based on the amount of deaths
Diagram where the radius is based on amount of allies and non-plugin companions
Diagram where the radius is based on the amount of enemies
Diagram where the radius is based on the amount of conflicts fought
(more diagram proposals?)I would suggest to start with the most simple ones, as some of the “approximate” data could generate forum bickering.
The result could be a very interesting infographic!January 8, 2017 at 12:24 pm #45747This is really neat! Apple, its amazing how big your crew has grown in the short time you’ve been here; you’ve clearly been doing something right!
Do you know what would be cool? If there was a plugin that could obtain data like this in game, data present on the /crew profile page, and turn it into infographics automatically, so we would have constant, accurate, crew visuals!
Great job though, this is awesome!
January 8, 2017 at 12:30 pm #45748Good job, I really love infographics like this.
Keep in mind that to keep sizes proportional in such a diagram, you need to compare the total areas, not just the radius or diameter sizes!
So you have crew A with 10 members and crew B with 20 members. You then make the radiuses 10mm and 20mm respectively. Crew A‘s circle will be 78.54 mm^2 and crew B‘s circle will be 314.16 mm^2. Which means circle B will look four times as big as circle A. It should however be twice as big!
To solve this, you should make area A = the total number of crew members.
I don’t know if you already did it here, because the chart looks pretty accurate in terms of size. But I thought I might point it for other people who want to make a similar diagram.

Good point. I will adjust this next time.
I was trying to get the dimensions right so that the picture wouldn’t look stretched but I made the post from my iPad. The full size image is in the imgur link.
*I finished editing it. I also made the circles transparent.
January 8, 2017 at 4:34 pm #45769Hmm could there be a reason why you isolated TAS, Phantom, and Global Domination from the rest of the crews ??

January 8, 2017 at 5:07 pm #45770@iketo I actually had nothing to do with the placement of each crew. In the program that I used to make this, the red rival lines repel the objects and the black ally lines attract the objects that they are attached to. So the crews just settled into place naturally. That is why allies tend to be clumped together and why GblDm is pushed away from the crews that they are rivaled with.
