Topic: "Leaving" Threads
I have stood by passively for months now. With all due respect to the people leaving the server, I think it’s time we opened a discussion thread.
First off, PirateCraft is a huuuuge community. I have honestly never experienced anything like it, and I know that it’s thriving like never before.
Nevertheless, people grow older. With age comes new responsibilities – and new a new focus in life. Sometimes this means we have to change our online habits.
Whilst recognising that many people might not have as much time available as often as they used to and might want to – or perhaps even need to “move on” in life, I would like to point out that it is absolutely possible to reduce game time without having to become completely abstinent from the server in one fell swoop.
I say this not because I don’t respect the decisions of people who feel they need to part with PirateCraft to continue their development, but because I suspect a certain “departure” culture is becoming mainstream. It seems to me that people feel they have to say goodbye for good, even when this is not necessarily the case. It is also not always the best (nor the only) solution!
Leaving is not necessarily a “bad” thing, but announcing it on the forums for all to see seems to be encouraging more and more people to present their departure in a dramatic way. I personally feel certain individuals might profit more from simply reducing their playtime to a manageable level. The reason for this is that a sudden departure from the server leaves a gap in other people’s lives. Not just in the person who has left, but also for the people who continue to play. Would it not be kinder to reduce one’s presence over the course of a month or longer instead of just disappearing in a cloud of smoke and ashes?
Naturally, this is not always something the players themselves can decide. Sometimes external factors make the decision for us. But I would like to address the borderline cases with this argument, just in case anyone else is thinking of making yet another “departure” post.
My best wishes to everyone who feels they must honestly leave the server for good. May you fare well in your voyages.
Topic: Goodbye
I’ll try and keep this short! xD
I’ve played this server for a year and half and it’s been my favourite to date. I’ve made so many fantastic memories with some fantastic people on here and I’ll miss it for sure!
However, I grew bored of survival mc a while ago and it was really just messing around with friends on here that kept me going, but with life getting busier irl again I’ve decided to leave the server indefinitely.
Phantom – You guys are the reason I’ve kept playing and its been hilarious xD Will keep in touch with you all <3
Nicky – It’s a shame we didn’t meet sooner because you’ve become one of my closest friends on the server!
Rep – Despite our ups and downs, you’ve always been a huge part of what piratecraft is to me, I wish you all the best in the future! 🙂
Cysteen -My stubbornness meant we would often butt heads but I’ve always respected you and we’ve shared lots of great moments on the server 🙂
TAS – You guys have always been fun to chat, fight and build with, joe let me know if I owe you anymore money xD
The Fruits – Will miss fighting you guys!
River – You were always fun to talk to and you put up with all my umming and ahhing at warp south xD
Chailey – I had the best time building up Templars with you over the summer, they are some of my favourite memories! I will definitely take you up on that offer of a beer sometime soon!
Max, Paul, Gildor and Crazy – you guys are some of the most gifted builders on the server and it’s been a pleasure playing with you all!
Java – Put the blunt down and step away! xD
Mark – Simultaneously the most annoying and hilarious person xD
Smokey – Had some great chats with you, I’ll eventually try an american biscuit!
Xadiez – you probably won’t see this but you were the first person I got to know on the server and we made a great team! Thanks for adopting this noob 🙂
Godsy – This is the best survival server I have played and its testament to your handwork and dedication, hope all your plans come to fruition without too much blood sweat and tears! 🙂
Sorry if I missed anyone!
And with that, in the ever generous spirit of piracy, Galaxy and I have hoarded our plunder in a cave! Wish everyone all the best in the future and thanks for having me! <3
History:
~ Former Admiral in the British Empire ~
~ Founder of Phantom ~
~ Co-Founder of Templars ~
~ Original owner of HMS Sovereign (Phantom Sovereign) ~Greetings, everybody!
You might be wondering what these “Commonwealth of Nations” forum groups are. The Commonwealth of Nations (CoN) is an alliance of Piratecraft crews willing to fight together and work together. Basically, it is the spiritual successor of the now defunct League of Nations (LoN).
So what has changed about this alliance apart from the name?
Quite a few things. For one, the smaller crews of LoN have now merged into a greater entity known as the Xanthian Order. They hold a position as one single crew in CoN, as they are now one crew in-game. Templar is the newest member crew to be welcomed into CoN’s fold.
The structure of the alliance has also been considerably strengthened. We have a very ordered charter which is far more detailed than what we had in LoN. This should prevent internal disputes like the ones that lead to the break up of the old “Allied”.
We also have a fully functioning (but not controlling) democratic government system which we call the “Secretariat”. After holding the first elections at the beginning of January 2017, I narrowly won the elections to become the first CoN Secretary-General.
So wait, why do you guys need a “Secretariat”? Don’t you already have your own crew governments?
The ultimate failure of LoN was its purposefully unclear, wishy-washy system. When we held votes on important subjects, no one really knew who was allowed to join in or what happened if there was a stalemate. LoN was something in between a chat room and a military helpline. We talked a LOT and fought together as allies. But during the Templar war it became clear that there were severe differences in what people had come to expect from the alliance, which is why it split up.
CoN needs a clearly defined system to prevent inner turmoil. To control such a system, there needs to be some people taking care of it. This is where the Secretariat comes in. Its function is to manage the proceedings in an ordered manner and encourage cooperation among the crews.
So who is in this Secretariat?
I am currently the Secretary-General. My vice is NickyB_123 and in the coming days we will be appointing “Commissioners” to whom we can delegate certain tasks.
What benefits do crews get from joining?
First and foremost you become part of a tight-knit community. CoN’s history stretches back into LoN and the 0utlawz war. There is some serious chemistry in the mix, not to mention a lot of friendly and helpful faces.
Besides that, CoN is rebuilding LoN’s vision of a defensive military alliance. An attack against one crew is an attack against all. In future, we will be working on improving our coordination to provide basic security around the clock.
You also get the opportunity to become part of some impressive community projects. We have a lot of things up our sleeves, such as ship battles, Olympic or Commonwealth Games, public facilities and road construction and much more. If you want to be part of fun community events, CoN is a very promising place to start.
Last but not least, each crew member gets equal say in the official CoN forum group. You may participate in votes on equal footing with all the other crews and help shape the face of both CoN and PirateCraft as a whole.
If you’re interested in joining, don’t hesitate to fill out the form which can be found in the official CoN membership application thread.
I hope to see you around. This thread will be updated as things happen in CoN. ?
Hello everyone, Google sent me an email saying I should move to https, So I spent the last few hours researching how and implementing it, this is the first time I have used https, so there will be some fixes to be made across the website. Overall https should make using the website more secure. Don’t worry all buycraft payment details were always handed in https always, I moved the main website to https as Google are pushing people to do so.
Hopefully all urls should be forced to https now for piratecraft from domain level.
What is https and why did you move to it? Find out more by Click on this link to learn more about https
So now on your browser on most pages you will see a little green padlock that may say secure, it may look something like this;
Some pages don’t display the padlock:
- If its a main website page, like a guide page, please send me the link so i can fix any assets that aren’t loading via https, these could be legacy images hosted on imgur or something, same goes for if an image or a page is broken due to this change.
- If its a forum thread, its most likely someone that has embedded an image from imgur or has a signature image that isn’t linked to a https link, please make sure you are all using https links, you will break the https padlock icon on any pages you post with http images instead of https images, this wont break the security of https, as you will still be using it, it just means you have flagged that page as insecure because you have loaded an unsecured asset.
What is broken that I know of?
- I know the maps broken, I need to figure out how to make the map load from https, you cant have an iframe that’s http on a https, they seem to be blocked automatically, if anyone knows how I can do this please do reply. For now you can use this direct link http://mc.piratemc.com:8123/
- Stats will need fixing before it works again, this shouldn’t be a big job.
- Some images are not being displayed correctly that are hosted on piratecraft as they are stuck in some form of infinite redirect (I had to remove my signature!) Need to figure this out too.
Please do report any issues, there will be some that crop up as this is all new to me!
