Trialling a bleeding edge server version this weekend

Mojang really screwed up 1.9 big time when it comes to performance, its absolutely killed us. Entities are using up 80% of all resources, with 47% of all of that dedicated to just hoppers, now im not going to nerf or disable hoppers, as this poor performance should be addressed in 1.9.3 (They better sort it) so for the time being I have moved us to use a bleeding edge server software, we have always used Spigot, I have moved us today to trial PaperSpigot which is suppose to be a more optimized version of Spigot (Which is in Turn an optimized version of Bukkit!) PaperSpigot has its own set of features im trawling through which may change gameplay a slight amount, if you notice anything out of the blue that is weird or broken then please do report it here.

in a few redstone tutorials I have followed, (a small amount) of hopper lag can possibly be reduced by placing I think a furnace over the hopper. been a while since I saw the tutorials, but the jist of it was placing the block with a gui (item inventory) disables the hoppers need to check for item entities above it. im unsure if this will work large scale or not, this is just what I can slightly recall.

Cysteen people have tested this and it actually doubles the amount of lag instead of reducing it.
People found it works if you have very few but if you have every hopper in a world covered with a furnace it just doubles it.
