Feel free to close this topic; I just wasn’t sure if you were aware of the situation.
Lately, around 10-11 EST the entire server lags really hard to the point that mobs only move every 5 seconds (and thus if they are attacking you you are dead by the time you hit them once). The block lag is really bad, you’ll break like 10 blocks and then they re-spawn and you are moved back to where you were moments prior.
I’ve noticed that general, between 12-2 EST the server shuts down, either when it’s SUPPOSED to reset or for no apparent reason, and then the server doesn’t come back up all night until morning, which is I assume when you wake up and realize it’s down.
If you aware of the situation then I apologize, we all know you are doing the best you can with the new hosts making things difficult, no one is trying to aggravate you; I just wanted to make sure you had all the information I could offer on the situation.
If anyone else has information about the recent nightly server downtime, such as more definite time ranges or error messages etc, please post them here so Gods can see them.

If im not told then I will never know! Especially things that happen when im asleep!
I assume this is the servers ram getting filled up due to not having enough reboots, as we have a memory leak in one of our plugins, I think its our old version of GriefPreventon.
The system that reboots us got broken by the host somehow, they haven’t fixed it, so I was trying another way to reboot the server, which involves turning the server off, waiting 2 mins then it turning it on again, hopeing that everything gets shut down gracefully.
I will add in 2 more restarts to see if that fixes the lag issues, and Ill check the logs to see why it crashed, but im sure its just got filled with memory.
I started off with 1 restart, then I added another one, Ill just go back to what we were at 4 per day.
December 28, 2014 at 12:06 pm #7332That sounds like it could be the problem; generally when it happens I’ve been playing for a few hours and haven’t seen a restart.
It’s also happened when alot of people have been on all day, many times when I see the server get the bad lag and then shut down it coincides with alot of the all night players (which I assume would contribute to the data building up).
Please let us know if there’s any particular clues to keep an eye open for, so we can help figure out the source of the issue!
December 28, 2014 at 12:30 pm #7333@Azuries Ok, I just added in 2 more stops, starts and warnings. If you can report back results from playing in a few days to see if this fixed the problem, Just so you know we now stop then start again at, 00:00, 06:00, 12:00 and 18:00, The start command is sent at 00:02, 06:02, 12:02 and 18:02.
I need to convert over griefprevention to the latest version, its a big step though, restarting isnt the best fix for an issue like this, I know that there is a problematic plugin now, so we need to weed it out, Its not even something I can test on a development server as you need players to play!
I will have to start updating everything, first up is griefprevention, then we can move to 1.8 (If the world conversion goes ahead nicely)
December 29, 2014 at 10:04 am #7353Sofar so good, the server has gone down and come up as normal all day, and the only lag experienced was just before/during the restarts which is normal.
Hopefully simply resetting more often fixed the problem! At least until you can figure out the initial source of the issue.

January 5, 2015 at 3:11 pm #7478Well it’s been a few days and, from what I have seen there has been no substantial downtime since you implemented more restarts. There is lag occasionally but it’s not the crippling lag that was happening before. I can’t speak for everyone, but from what I have seen simply restarting the server more often seems to have worked.
It might also help with the host running out of info storage as well? I don’t know much about hosts etc but it would stand to reason that the more often things are reset (and I assume saved/backed up) the less info has to be stored at any given time, and thus less chance for it to overload. Not sure if that’s what’s going on but I am hoping the two are related and simply having more restarts could solve that issue as well 😀
January 15, 2015 at 6:09 pm #7908Server down at 1:00pm on 1-15-15 (Thursday). Thought it was a restart but apparently shes actually down.
January 15, 2015 at 6:13 pm #7909False alarm shes back!
January 15, 2015 at 7:11 pm #7910Our problem with the automatic scheduler is back, for some reason it takes like 10 mins to shut down the server, it should take less than 60 seconds, so in that time the start command has already run, which means it wont come back up :/
January 16, 2015 at 6:15 am #7915Looks to be down again.
Is there any kind of failsafe we can put in for these situations? Like for instance having a second startup command that only applies if the server is still down?
Like if the server sometimes doesnt finish shutting down before the startup line runs; have like an extra line: if the server is still down after x minutes, run restart line again.
January 16, 2015 at 10:03 am #7917No, I am restricted to our hosts web-panel options, I could add another start command, but it depends how they have programmed that to work, If it trys to start another instance while its alraedy running, it would crash the server if it was already running, there is no method to check if the servers alive or not.
I have submitted a ticket and am waiting on a response.
January 16, 2015 at 11:43 am #7919Ah well that’s unfortunate. Hopefully they will do something about the issue soon!
January 18, 2015 at 4:06 am #795111:00pm EST. Servers been down for a little bit now.. doesn’t look like a restart. Does the host offer customizable web panel permissions? Might not be a bad idea to hire someone to check up every couple hours or so with the ability to restart if the problem persists.
January 18, 2015 at 5:26 am #7952It wasn’t a restart; the server as lagging REALLY bad then timed out everyone on. This was a few hours ago now.
It was lagging so badly that my zombie spawner only spawned things every few minutes (its usually very fast) and I would hit the zombies but it wouldn’t register them being hit until a full minute or more later.
