I have white-listed the server to get everyone’s attention, Dramatic much? That’s the point! Read the post!
Staff are on the verge, were all sick to death of the behaviour in chat from some players and the disrespect dished out daily 24/7, If you beat down on someone they will not be very responsive/happy, when we are like this we don’t want to play which means no help, its a catch 22.
Behaviour issues we are having.
- What staff says goes, this is in the rules, this is the most abused of everything, No fighting back, no being rude, no nothing, that’s it.
- If a player is asking for help in global, answer them, do not leave it to staff, Help us build a FAQ section so we can then all just post that link to them.
- Rules are not extensive, Trying to find loopholes is not level headed and a waste of everyone’s time and sanity. Read point 1.
This is the rules page http://piratemc.com/information/rules/ you can add rules to the Wiki to be considered to be added: http://wiki.piratemc.com/Rules - Staff accusations have to stop now.
- Complaing persistently and in a peevish or irritating way to absolutely everything to staff and in-global chat needs to stop right now.
- Causing drama to get attention and/or lying to staff is a waste of staff time and patience.
- All requests no matter how small need to be submitted to a support ticket, not in-game
I will be looking into opening up our staff tracker for Private tickets so they are not public, these can then be assigned to staff. - Stop with the drama, we don’t have the time or patience to read over paragraphs of rubbish, if you have an issue, it needs to be clear and to the point.
- Staff are not here to wait hand-on-foot on everyone, staff are here to moderate behaviour, issues need to be requested into a tracker. The mentality of some people that we are waiters that need to answer/help out is outrageous, staff are not paid, they are here to play and have fun, if we don’t want to help someone because of their attitude that is fine, anyone kicking up a fuss can just leave.
I’m a fantastic player that does none of those things how can I help?
Im very sorry that you are being punished for the select few that are causing this, This forum thread has been made because we have all snapped from the recent behaviour from a large amount of players doing the above things. We need your help, the community is what is most important to PirateCraft, I am asking the community for help on how to deal with these chat issues, all staff are fed up of everything above and we need help to figure it out on how we can make our lifes and the community life’s better, please reply with any ideas you may have.
More staff?
Yes, we want more staff, we are always looking but its hard to find anyone that’s not going to abuse staff perms to their advantage (See points above about respect)
Options to deal with Behaviour
On a technical level, all of the above is all via chat, which makes me wonder if we could be using a different system of chat to make life easier.
My only solid idea at present is to use muting more, anyone breaking any of the above will be tempmuted for a long period of time 2-3weeks+ at a time, fighting that and getting angry about their own mistakes will result then in a tempban, and again a permanent ban if they cannot cool down. We see a lot of these types of people that just cannot cool down. Maybe we need a helper sub-rank that can answer questions and /tempmute for upto an hour. this way we some extra hands on board to help keep the chat respectable without having a full staff member, this could then be used as a foot in to a staff position.
Community Vote mute? Would get abused by crews bullying to their own needs.
Let us use URLS to post to the Wiki and piratemc.com! Im working on it, I cant figure out whats blocking it or where I can find a whitelist.
Create some hashtags to auto post common questions in chat as a reply, This will happen once we have a FAQ built.
Communicating an issue
Using in-game chat is near impossible as a staff member to talk out any issues, I personally get very very stressed trying to deal with issues this way, This is why we need each and every player to create a ticket for any issue they may have, keeping in mind the top topics. Most issues can be answered in global chat by asking, Please, please reply to these people, when you don’t the staff get bombarded with stupid questions which then overloads us.
I have found using our IRC chat is easier talking 1 to 1 http://piratemc.com/chat/ First create a support ticket, nothing is so important that it needs to be dealt with instantly, If you feel different please tell me what would need to be instantly talked out 1 to 1 with a staff member.
Some staff prefer using teamspeak to talk to people http://piratemc.com/information/teamspeak/
There are plugins that can bridge the connection between game-chat and teamspeak/IRC we might trial out.
Rewards
There is no official rewards system for helping out as I would get people go “I helped XYZ where is my reward” because of those people we can’t have such a system, but we do have a private staff tracker where we track people that help, this gets written into a staff book where you will get priority help and goodies from time to time if we feel like it, thats the key we dont want people asking.
February 9, 2016 at 3:04 pm #29333Could you potentially add another staff rank? The rank would essentially be a helper and they would have the ability to temp mute and temp ban; no other commands.

There is often drama in chat to the point where I just don’t look at it and often it is due to swearing or whining. I help when I can (reward or not) because I wished I got more help when I first started. I know it is a pirate server, but no need to be rude to new players or to whine when you get killed (and I got killed plenty). Players need to keep it under control and use the ticket system and other chat methods when things don’t go right. Players that disrespect others need to be tempband(ed) and then permanently banned if it keeps up. I couldn’t believe how many inappropriate words a player by the name Boltace used the other day without trying to hide it. I’d suggest at least looking for inappropriate words spelled right and a certain number gets you banned and the common misspellings (f***) should have a similar affect. These words are just not necessary and do not positively contribute to game play. We should be using words like scallywag and bilge drinking swab and mutinous swine – we are a pirate server after all. I’d actually find that amusing. To have some fun perhaps post a link to some pirate insults (http://www.insult-o-matic.com/insults/?mode=pirate ) or maybe there is a plugin to replace bad words with pirate phrases. This would beat the alternative and hopefully make everyone smile and get into role. Also, to help players is there a key word others can use to point people to the website for help? I’ll look forward to a more informed and well behaved community of <span style=”color: #000000; font-family: ‘Times New Roman’; font-size: large; line-height: normal;”>scurvy-infested pirates swabbing the deck</span>
February 9, 2016 at 3:23 pm #29337Alright. I will 🙂
February 9, 2016 at 3:39 pm #29339Okay, my points (sorry if I repeat anything, but I find it easier just to dump text on a page)
More staff; yes it’s been mentioned, and yes, you have to trust that person, but you know those community vote things we used to have on the side of a webpage? Something like that, where the community elects trusted players who become ‘muters’ who can give a maximum of a 6 hour mute, so that higher staff can deal with the problem later. However, the community vote thing is just to bring certain candidates to your attention, rather than put them in a position.
A chat filtering system. Many minigames/hub servers have this, turning f*ck into ****, or sometimes removing it from chat altogether. Obviously some people will want to get past this, and for others, it will annoy them; in the right context, swearing is okay. So, just switch certain profanities with pirate themed ones. Its novel, and would be a great laugh.
Those are all I could think off, sorry.
February 9, 2016 at 3:47 pm #29341How long will the server be whitelisted?

If a player got a certain amount of reports (a single player can only send 1) a staff would know who it was when they log in. It would have issues though, such as creating more staff work and possible abuse. A chat filter, like many others have suggested, would also be nice to remove the unneeded and all too constant swearing. This one seems a bit drastic, but perhaps all new deckhands cannot talk in global until after an hour of joining? It would suck for the good deckhands out there but would potentially delay people like Boltace.

---------------------------------------------------February 9, 2016 at 3:50 pm #29344I agree with BGraph; a sub staff rank as a helper to just kind of reign in the misbehavior of others is a good idea, giving them limited commands. I also think that the players should take it upon themselves to help out a little more when others are having problems. Maybe the punishment for those who do the things listed above in the original post should have more severe discipline. Any of them that disrespect staff should have maybe a single warning and them tempban/permban depending on how bad it is. I’d be interested to see what other means of chat you mean @GodsDead. I know there are several annyoing and abusive players who need to be dealt with, maybe a personal mute option could be viable. For example; I’m playing, and im tired of seeing what someone is saying, i could just tempmute that person for me alone rather than a whole crew or server? Just an idea.

Lord of Alinor; The City of LightFebruary 9, 2016 at 3:57 pm #29349Got another idea: an addition to the /ignore feature where its auto set to ignore people who use too much profanity in a short period of time. The auto ignore would ignore them for an hour or more depending on the severity of the profanity, effectively muting them without actually muting them. Sounds a bit stupid, but figured I’d mention it.

February 9, 2016 at 4:15 pm #29352For the /report, that is coming, it exists, but its not ready for the public yet, its part of banmanager so its all tied in, its early days for it yet though as its so new, this will in time be the official way to report everything since it will be linked to a web UI to fill out a more in-depth help or report request.
Im all game for a swear-banning plugin.
Im game for helpers, these would keep their normal rank but inherit 1 permission, tempmute (limited) so people wouldn’t know who had this ability, it would just be for crowd control. I have covered it in the main body of text, please read it.
we have 3 plugins that already monitor chat for spam and there is a basic swear list built into GriefPrevention that triggers too. These all may be replaced with a better system that would allow me to whitelist urls, ban swear words and add in #something to replace with pre-set text.
