So a lot of people come on the server, hang around for 5 minutes and then…

    noob7364876: can i join a crew plz?

    noob7364876 has joined a crew

    This needs to stop.

It is really annoying to see people new to the server joining crews that they know nothing about.

And, IMO, it is unfair to the new person. If they just join the first crew that they are offered to, *they really don’t have a choice, nor do they know what is going on with that crew, such as who their allies and enemies are.

*They do have a choice but they have no idea what their options are and the reprecussions of the descision they make.

I think there should be a minimum rank/play time requirement for people to join crews.

This is not a personal hate post directed towards crews who do this but I am just saying that it needs to stop.

I dunno, lots of people leave the server very quickly if no one seems willing to provide assistance. If a crew is willing to take in a new, untested and potentially unexperienced player and help them integrate into the community, I don’t see why it shouldn’t be allowed?

If a new player joins a crew without knowing what they’re getting into, it’s their own decision.

@PaulOnFire it is true that new players need help. There is a lot to take in and without help, they will drown. I see the importance of teaching new players but joining a crew does not seem like the optimal path.  I think we should talk to people who have recently joined the server and find out what they had the most trouble with, then attempt to fix these problems in a way that does not involve having crews snatching up new players. One option might even be to have a “noob crew” where all the new players are automatically put into a new crew until they reach a certain rank or leave. We could have experienced people leading the noob crew to teach them about the server before they are launched into the cesspit. I would be willing to help with this crew and converse with new players (although I can’t make any time commitments).

Another option might be to have a sort of apprentice program. However, this would be more time consuming for the teachers.

    No.

The best way to integrate players into the server community is to do so via crews. I’ve been on here a while now, and I can agree wholeheartedly with Paul here, in that if new players don’t join a crew fast, they go.

Many people will join a crew ‘not knowing what it’s about’, because the entire point about joining is about new experiences and friends. Its by no means ‘unfair’ to a new person, because its what they want; to be part of a community, and to explore the history and ethos of their new crew.

having crews snatching up new players.

    launched into the cesspit

the reprecussions of the descision they make.

This is not a personal hate post directed towards crews who do this but I am just saying that it needs to stop.

It does honestly come across as a bit of a hate post. Cesspit is not the word I’d use to describe our thriving community, nor would I argue that joining it, or a crew for that matter, comes with numerous repercussions. Not every deckie is a noob, and some crews recognise that; whether they choose to exploit that by recruiting an individual is entirely their choice.

People should be allowed to recruit deckies, and deckies should be allowed to join crews. Simple.

This server needs crews like the BE and EM also known as the EE. We have been there for more people than you can realize. If we were to stop inviting new people then this server would not have a bright future as well as others crews if they too were to stop. The same player base would die off.

The Elven Empire has held people which you wouldn’t think needed a crew to begin with, people such as Galaxy, Silverstone, Kingkarim, Keto and many more.

We take chances on people and i took a chance when i saw you as a noob and invited you to the empire as well. You cant discriminate new people from joining the crews. Its the crews choice to do whatever they feel best and all im saying is that BE and EM have kept the generations together.

How are you going to just stop it…? This post seems like you posted it as if you were in charge… with the sudden “it needs to stop.” Idk, its the tone im feeling from this post.

How is this a serious problem…and why does it ‘need to stop’? It’s better to invite them to crews instead of leaving them alone to struggle on their own. Plus if the crew they have recently joined has a lot of enemies, then…and this may shock you… they can always leave and join a new crew *gasp*.

@PopCornOne – I see where you are coming from, but I have to disagree.

I think crews willing to take-in brand-new ex-landlubbers should be supported. I mean there is a noob that can’t even differentiate between a rusty carronade and a mortar, has no gear and doesn’t know robbing from stealing. Why would anyone want that piece of filth in their crew ??
But then again crews take them in. And that is great! How else can they learn the ropes, how else can they talk about siege-ing and bounties and building/sailing ships.

Even if it’s the “wrong” crew – let them learn by their mistake. Let them live a pirate life, being hired by the wrong mutineer. That’s how they grow – that’s how they choose a different crew next time -or even- start their own. 🙂
