The map system should be used for the /near command so the command won’t give away people. If you can /near it ruins stealth and the point of invisible potions. You could just keep /nearing until you know the invisible player is next to you and kill them. The /near command should not be able to detect players in the darkness or invisible by potions but in fairness they shouldn’t be able to /near their victim either. In real life you wouldn’t be able to see if someone is nearby if they are in the darkness or invisible. Finally, I don’t think donator should have /near otherwise every rank should have it. I know how people pay the server and receive a reward but isn’t it enough captains have better items than other ranks. By giving donor /near your letting donors have a much better chance of living than other ranks even though their /kits already do that.

No, it shouldn’t. It only tells you your distance from the player and their name, not where they are on map. If you’re smart, you won’t make any moves that provoke the use of /near when being stealthy then. Captains have to be wary of other captains who have this as well. Also, it’s not like Captains type it every five seconds ( at least I don’t). They rely on live map like other players. They use /near  when they become suspicious and use it to further justify or disprove their suspicions. If you are a non captain and suspicious, you just have to be extra cautious relying on your gut instinct and tp away immediately / prepare to fight.

I’m not a captain and I don’t have /near, but I think that /near becomes pointless if it has the exact same functionality as looking at dynmap.

Eph, then /near should be removed because your proving my intention. You stated since /near is practically pointless if it has the same mechanics as dynmap which means /near’s only usage is to ruin the surprise/meaning of invisible pots and the /map

No, it shouldn’t. It only tells you your distance from the player and their name, not where they are on map.      So if you try moving the opposite way  of your enemy it will show on /near that your farther away. So you could find which direction the enemy is and then kill him because one you see the boubles you can fight him. You can also run away once you see he’s near or tp away. Which is why I am saying /near completely ruins the element of stealth.

its not that accurate, and if someone is near enough for you to hit, they’ll kill ya while you’re looking at the information about where they were, so its only handy as a early warning device.

if you can trace a moving target with /near and manage to kill them congrates to you. If you are stupid enough to be killed while invis by someone using /near, shame on you.

Lucky you will be missed 🙁

When you see that Java has replied to some recent topics and you’re like: “Oh! Cool! Time for some entertainment.”… And then they are all legit replies.

You had one job Java… Rip.

    Tut tut tut!

    When will you learn?

Servers need to make money, money comes from donations, donations are only made if there’s a trade to some extent.

    Donators get /top, /near etc.

If you remove a fundemental mean to the Donation, In-Game boosts trade off, donation prices would have to drop, and people wouldn’t donate because they lost their /near command. Less donations = Less improvements and less payment to keep the server up. Eventually this server will crash and die because of your idea. Godsdead has said this is a side project, but he would like to keep it up I’m guessing.

Anyway, back to your first idea. /near is really weird. 5m away could mean 5m on top of you, 5m under you, 5m to the North, East, South, West of you. /near is used to be protective right now by /near spamming, or to attack somebody if they’re really scared of you and crouching (they are the worst kinds of cowards). So once again, if /near becomes exact same as the  live map. Some people will stop donating because they know the Live Map is more exact and they will be better off  without donating if they loved /near before.

This is really exaggerated of what is true, but it could happen.

    Only donators can use /near.

Moral of this story? Don’t go after donators or those donators who may be cautious enough to do /near.

I don’t think it would make any difference for the effort needed to implement, its part of Essentials, and they are very frugal with what they add as features, there are 200+ enhancements that are needed and queued up, I highly doubt this would be considered by them.
