By now I Have spent a couple months on this server, and I have to say this is probably the most fun I’ve had on Minecraft multiplayer. I know a lot of you won’t know or recognise me, as my popularity level here is around zero, but even looking in from the outside I can see this is a great community.
I’d just like to make a proposition, as there is something that I would quite like to set up here. I have noticed recently, that deckhands especially are frequently asking for materials, food and tools to get them started, but most of us are too busy to help. This is why I would like to start up a ‘supplies bank’ for them, where they can get free help to become self sustainable for themselves, by making a farm and/or a small base.
To prevent anyone from becoming too reliant, this ‘help’ will only be given a certain amount of times, which can range from tools to food and blocks. After they have surpassed the limit (at the moment I’m thinking of making a points system, each item worth a certain amount of points) these materials will still be offered, but at a price that is cheap and affordable instead of receiving them for free.
To prevent anyone from making a profit from this, I will check in chat for any obvious ‘re-sales’ but I will also refuse this help to anyone above sailor or cadet (I haven’t decided which) or anyone that I feel does not need it.
I feel that this system could help new deckhands feel more welcome on this server, hopefully meaning more will become long term players, further expanding our community.
Another way I would like to help people on this server is to provide materials to those who have just been raided or have had their base destroyed. I know how hard it is to log on and see you have been raided and your builds with big holes in them, or the terrain around your base to be destroyed (if you claimed properly, which unfortunately I did not). I would like to supply anyone in this situation with tools and blocks to rebuild and get back on their feet. I know due to gossip on the chat and forum posts that a long term player ‘Konstructor’ (sorry for the name, I probably killed the spelling or got it completely wrong) left because of a fight with a crew that apparently took all his stuff which he could not get back. As I said before I would like to use this ‘organisation’ (mainly me cos I have 0 friends) to help anyone in this situation and to keep them going. I think that many builders who like stay away from pvp could benefit from this.
So that’s it……. something like this is probably already in place meaning I’m a blind idiot, and I know I said it would be quick but I wanted to make sure I covered everything to answer any questions. If this does go ahead this will obviously take ages to set up.
Please if you think its a good idea could you please leave a reply so I know it has support, and even if you think its stupid please say so and I will drop it right now so I know where everyone stands with this.
This server has given me hours of fun, and I just wanted to give something back.
Thanks for reading this unnecessarily long post, and congrats if you made it all the way through. 🙂

June 25, 2016 at 11:09 pm #36598Good for you for wanting to help out! A few times this has discussed, and a few crews do that, but it boils down to logistics sometimes as no one has a set time that they are always on.
By the way, this actually is the mission of the Brotherhood and we have a couple of ‘poor boxes’ set up already. Also at cove and at spawn ship there are boxes that people use for that, but, its sporadic and some new folks will ask and ask, and aren’t very receptive when you do try and help, so, that gets old. Also, its hard when you are in the middle of massive building projects yourself.
But, if you come up with a more reliable solution for the problem, a soup kitchen or free stuff store, by all means, let me know and I’ll be happy to help with supplies.

~~~~~ from the dust of the void all is made, and to the void it returns~~~~~June 26, 2016 at 12:18 am #36599Unfortunately, many people have the mentality that newbies should make their own beginnings. When I started out, I didn’t ask for anything. I just went and started after finding a good place on the map. However, I love to help people out, especially newbies. Unfortunately, my experiences of helping out have been severely tainted by newbies attempting to kill me or succeeding in killing me, making me lose the entire stash of items I had that I was using for a project. I think it would be great to set up a system as proposed here, and maybe just have some collection areas at cove, spawn, the NESW warps, and just around crews, towns, and other busy areas where players could toss a few items in a hopper if they didn’t need them, and just have a little exchange area at cove or something. Personally, though, I don’t think we should make handouts completely free, as the newbies could then just become reliant on this, or other players could use it. Constant surveillance would be impossible, so I think there should just be some basic, easy to get currency, such as wheat, or seeds, maybe cobble that could be traded for items of slightly higher value, such as food, seeds for better farms, leather armor, etc. Some of the items could also be put in a slot machine of some kind and make it so you have a chance of getting a lower value item, a decent chance of getting an equal or slightly better item, and a chance to get a better item that is a little bit higher than the chance for a lower value item, but still lower than the equal. I would like to participate in this as much as I can, in order to help people out, and just have fun on the server for some time(currently all I’m doing on this server is digging a massive pit, so some variety is always welcome). Anyway, hope this does better than previous propositions to help deckies. Good luck, and make sure to message me if you need help with anything.
June 26, 2016 at 12:22 am #36601As my continuous days of ruling in a queen in a empire, being a international charity can help everyone!
I like to see good people like you help. Which I BELIVE you and Kanube could be the start to the International Red Cross!
We could set up hoppers leading to chests (or the fancy [device] thing that I have no idea how to use) at Aeos island. Quite a few people arrive there with junk in their inventory, such as 5 wooden planks, or 7 arrows, basically things that are generally not worth keeping. But deckhands would love some freebies.
Well, when people arrive at Aeos island, they could dump these items into the chests, and we could somehow distribute these to deckhand visitors of Aeos island, or just generally to everyone.
That’s all I could think of spontaneously. I have loads of junk in my chests that would make deckhands happy.
@XeronJune 26, 2016 at 11:38 am #36606Thanks to everyone who replied, it just goes to show what a great community this is. I got some replies from some people that I really look up to on this server and I’m so glad you support the idea. I did think everyone would completely ignore me.
Thanks to all who gave suggestions as well, they have all been taken into account and will go towards making this idea closer to a reality further in the future.
Finally, I just want to say thanks, and if support continues I will make a follow up post outlining more details with the suggested modifications.
June 26, 2016 at 3:13 pm #36610ive tried helping newbies out, but half the time, when I give them something (doesnt matter what it is), they keep pming me for the next 20 minutes asking for more. one player asked to buy blaze rods. I gave him some spares in an off stack and sent him on his merry way. 5 mins later I got msged by that player asking for obsidian, and something else. id like to help newbies out, but not when they beg, or keep trying to mooch off you. ^ my 2 cents
Thanks for replying, to try and get around this I want to give these people the means to get what they want instead of just handing it over. For example if they want blaze rods, we give them a nether portal, if they want materials, we give them a small amount to start and some tools so they can get their own.
As I said in my main article I wanted to create a limit on what could be claimed, and after the items would be offered at a price (but still cheap and affordable so a deckhand can buy them). If they become too pushy them help can just be refused, but I hope it would not come to that, I aim to make these people self sustainable so they can make their own way in the server.
Anyway thanks again for showing an interest, its great to have people who will listen to my ideas. Through everyone’s help and suggestions I will try to close as many loopholes as possible to prevent this sort of thing.
June 26, 2016 at 6:08 pm #36617Yeh I have also spent time helping out new people but they always come for more…
I’ve got an abundance of captain gear, and it used to be the case that when one died, I’d issue them a set. But, that would evolve into ‘Got any stone brick I could borrow?’ or ‘Could I have some wood?’ ‘Do you have any iron handy?’
But, good on you 😛
June 26, 2016 at 9:23 pm #36639For me, I like to create a massive roleplay experience!
I select only a few deckhands and I “appear to them” in game with color text in Msg saying “*Wispers* (There username) I will be looking over you… for a long time.. ”
I’ll tp invis in God armor and give them things, then say this is all you will get. Make the best of it. We will meet again.
They don’t ask me for another thing lol
June 27, 2016 at 12:02 am #36665Although I do not mean in any way to criticise or undermine the clear good you mean to do with this, I feel as though it is unnecessary. I remember my first day on the server and I was given no starting items nor did I ask for any, in fact I lost what little I recieved upon logging in by drowning after jumping off the ship. I managed to survive, and I know of plenty of others who have done the same. Provided the deckies are not new to the game then they will know how to become self sufficient.
As well as this, most deckies will never become regular to this server but will leave. Any help they recieve will be wasted because they will not log in again. Because of this combined with the fact that any player can become self sufficient with no external help and also taking into account the demanding and ungrateful (I’ve even had a deckie try to kill me after I helped them) nature of a significant amount of deckies I really feel as though your time would be better spent on another project.
Bear in mind I am writing this with the idea that you will not enjoy doing this as much as you would other projects. If this is something that would be fun for you then by all means go ahead; that is the purpose of a computer game after all.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
Thanks for replying. The purpose of the post was to see what opinion everyone had in this matter, so I could gauge how useful the whole thing would be. The idea was based off of me wanting more deck hands to become long term players by making the server seem more welcoming and helpful than it already is.
