I press play and it says: “Failed To Login: The authentication servers are currently down for maintenance”. Why won’t it let me on? Other people are already on…

For anyone who encounters this in the future and is happening to read this post, this is copied from my reply to gamer on discord:

“it happens every now and then. Mojang has their own servers to verify accounts are authentic. (with pmc utilizes) Sometimes they are down for maintenance and there’s nothing you can do until it’s done.”
