Right, I went to the gym pumped some iron and thought about this the entire time.
I think this is limited to a very small pocket of assholes, these assholes need to be named and shamed, I don’t want scum like that on my server, so we will create a new thread, lets find out who these people are.
2. I think the best option at present is to make all public warps PVP free, I hate the idea of making it even harder to PVP on PirateCraft but this seems to be an issue.
I really can’t see Being able to toggle PVP for players working at all, Im going to test a plugin @Verihax posted tonight, that PVP manager also deals with Combat log, so if its combat log works, then this might be a no brainier to switch to if it gives me more PVP options.
Now think to the future of shops, Do remember that we are moving to Signshop, Im not entirely sure how this works, Ive put it on my development server so we can all test it (dev.piratemc.com) This allows me to limit shops per user (Does this mean we need to select the shop area?)
This gives us an opportunity to revamp shop systems, its a little unbalanced at present with anyone with a custom warp getting all customers, where as someone that can’t donate for a warp wont have a chance in the shop business.

Why not make using a town warp cost $10 like /warp east etc.? Serious builders or people who want to get rid of their stuff can use the warp or tp to a friend who’s already there. The griefers (usually newer players) wouldn’t have the funds to keep warping to the shop. If they /sethome, they’ll spawn without gear and can be quickly dispatched.

I think it’s a limit of the number of Buy/Sell sign a player can have.
There is also another setting allowing to set worldguard areas where shops are allowed or forbidden.To solve the problem of big warp shops, one solution could be encouraging existing warps to rent more plots/houses to players or opening a public merchant area (Having a big market like that http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/155/9/d/minecraft__waterfall_market__theroleplayworld__by_gamerpeons-d67toy5.jpg with plots rented to players for their small shop could be awesome)

as i was saying, perhaps all warps should have a small pvp free area. enough to put 5-6 shops in so areas can be rented out.
but i believe that if a player is in a pvp-free zone for say….. 20 minutes, it deactivates the effect on that player. this will stop them from camping as they will be able to get hit and not hit the newly arrived players. it will also give players enough time to get there stuff and leave.
February 18, 2015 at 2:57 pm #9177I think the timer thing would be awesome, but is it possible to implement it is another story. I think this really would help alot, since player coming to shop are protected ofr say 5 minutes? shopping doesnt take alot of time so i think 5 minutes would be ok..
I know that it would be unfair if a warp would be totally pvp free, then i could just go around my city forever not fearing anyone, then go raid someone and tp back to safety..
So with that solution buyers will be protected while i will not be protected. This is also nice because if there was anyone wanting to kill me, they would be better of to just travel to my location instead of popping out of a warp and insta killing me without me even noticing, which is something i am really bugged about atm.
And also regarding the rentable plot thing for people not having a warp, I have really been trying to provide that opportunity for other players since i first made my warp. I thought it would be cooler if we had a more “alive” marked than just one or two “admin” shops.. (when i joined the only two shops running were iamthereapers and skymanjays).
There are some problems i have run into though..
1. Rental needs to be managed by me manually (i know we have talked in forums about a fix for that)
2. whenever someone doesnt respect their rental agreement with me, i can simply throw them out of their shop, but i cannot have the trade signs removed, since i cannot touch other players trade signs. Maybe the new plugin has a way to fix this idk?
So thats really the two things thats setting me off from making more shops for players. Its just really really time consuming and annoying ish to constantly bug players not respecting their agreements to me.

February 20, 2015 at 3:54 pm #9294I strongly believe that purely trade-oriented areas should be pvp-free. Everyone knows it’s a problem yet natural for a server like this so I won’t go into that. I agree that all personal claims should be left out of consideration of becoming pvp-free, but only completely trade-oriented areas (such as Wolfshire, Port Hope, etc.) should be granted this privilege. Anyone who has shown dedication through buying a warp, building very nice trade areas, and providing excellent player service should be allowed to have their trades protected from pvp. We take out all conversation of fairness if pvp-free zones are given only to those who have clearly and irrefutably worked hard to provide trade services. That’s just my 2 cents, I hope I helped persuade this matter.

December 27, 2015 at 7:33 pm #25889I am grave-digging this topic as it is still current. This particular thread is almost a year old and the decision was made (actively or passively) to not make player-run shops PVP free.
In the meantime, the situation has deteriorated even further. Shops are actually even more dangerous now than they were back then and many are chronically understocked due to fewer people visiting warps.
Originally my personal opinion was that shop owners should use redstone to provide safety for customers. Some do these days, such as /warp food, but the fact remains that players can warp in immediately, sometimes invisible, and ambush players that way before they’re even detected. Warp killers get rich quick and cheaply at the expense of honest customers. The only way to go shopping in relative peace is with an invisibility effect active.
I’ve heard there is an idea in the works to remove shop warps in favour of some other system. Is this a true rumour or do we need to reignite the discussion surrounding PVP free shopping zones?
December 27, 2015 at 8:08 pm #25891I like the idea of a guard for the shop and that would help players make money,but they won’t be able to stop everyone. So to get a Pvp free zone you have to be a donater, you’re shop has to over 1,000 blocks and then the staff votes if it deserves to be Pvp free.

To be honest, I agree that pvp-free warps should be an option. Warp killing is so openly wrong and yet so common, that it requires server-side restriction. PvP free warps were needed a year ago, and they are desperately needed now. However, I believe that pvp-free claims should be allowed for shops only. Having pvp-free claims obtainable through donations for other purposes is pay to win, which I know this server does not support.

I was thinking you could have the owners of the shops give gear to some players that would help guard the shop. I would love to stand guard and patrol shops to protect people when they come into the shops.
