    Ok it’s a pirate pvp server, I get it but what I and all the other merchants do here is a service to all players. We cut the wood, mine the diamonds, dig the iron and gold smelt it into ingots. We grow the wheat, carrots, melon, taters and cane. We craft it into books, bread, armor and tools.  We gather resources and from all over the map. We buy useless items from you so you will have a little in game money, we give away almost as much stuff as we sell. What do we get from it? Well, we enjoy farming, crafting, mining and building. We like helping new players as well as our old friends. So whats the problem?

    Godsdead provides a spleef and pvp arena. There are many well fortified castles and ships brimming with canon itching for a fight. Yet there is an endless line of cowardly foul mouthed aholes that think defenseless shops are there to be sieged and defenseless merchants are there just to be ambushed killed and robbed. I have customers afraid to come to my shop because they are continually attacked and killed.

    Until there is a no pvp rule in shops under penalty of perma ban or a no pvp protection that can be purchased or granted to shops I am done with fighting my way into and out of my shop and being ambushed and robbed inside while my shop is vandalized. It’s become unacceptable and is no longer any fun.

    I think a lot of people can agree to this. I myself refuse to go to a shop unless it’s not during peak hours, and I completely empty my inventory; but the fact is a bunch of players are no longer having fun with the economy dynamic because you will most certainly make yourself a target by doing so.

    Who buys from shops? Mostly builders looking for materials, not PVP oriented people. Who attacks them? PVP experienced people. I think I’m not the only one who thinks that’s pretty unfair, and it ruins the game for anyone who isn’t here strictly for PVP.

    Granted the PVP and Spleef arenas are down; but as Wog said, there’s tons of cities with huge armadas and defenses itching for a battle; This is PIRATECRAFT where you sail the seven seas looking for treasure and loot the coast! Not BANDITCRAFT or THEIFCRAFT where you kill defenseless builders and merchants to get your jollies. It’s just upsetting to many players to have their entire day ruined because some jerk thinks its fun to pick at easy targets.

    I too often empty my inventory before leaving, and only buy in small amounts. I am forced to hold shift, due to the fat that it is always far to laggy for me to fight back. Shops should be PVP free in my opinion.

    I usually dont hear about gameplay like this until someone has had enough!

    The PVP free shops is a player based rule at present, a lot of people get this confused when playing.

    I outlined a few issues with having PVP free zones via PM to wog, ill post them here too.

    Negative:

    • Who gets their area PVP free? There is no way I want people spamming me even more asking for a PVP free zone, this is making me nervious already. “But thisplayer got a PVP free shop, why cant I?”
    • This will expand to people asking for a PVP free personal base.
    • People will flee and camp in pvp free zones to hide from combat
    • This has to be setup via an admin, as the flags are set via Worldguard not GriefPrevention, I tried using a third party flags system for GP but it was aweful, this means re-sizing and making new plots is another admin job.

    Positives:

    • Peaceful shopping
    • Seller Protection from Siege
    • No siege damage

    Half of me wants to protect shops, and the other half wants to keep it brutal, When theres options to siege and rob shops, that makes the playing exiting! Maybe big shops should have traps or a small army to protect the area.

    I never ment for economy to bloom the way it has, It started from one person asking me to enable trade signs in essentials.

    We need a rule to define how a PVP area is set/sized, Either set areas which would be very hard seeing that people have already setup shops around the world. One option could be its only avalible to people that bought warps, then again im not a big fan of introducing this either!

    What are peoples opinions? If we get enough ideas, then I can pass it to a vote.

    How about PVP free shops are only available to shops in official towns, or shops with a warp.

    We talked a bit with Callie about that during the night as the problem is real.

    I’m not fond of the pvp-free area areas, we’re in a pirate world after all. But I totally understand the problem with the harassement of the few last days.

    We have the solution of bounties and others “Kill on sight lists” but that kind of bully player don’t care and will come with bad items/armors to annoy players again and again without fear of being killed.

    What if we could bring a real “risk” to those mean raids? Having an improved jail system could be the solution. I’ve never seen jails being really used on this server (with the vote roulette exception). What if a high enough bounty could lead to a jail time of a few hours when the player is killed? It would respect the spirit of a pirate world and could slow down the attacks.

    (I don’t know exactly how it could be managed technically as I didn’t took time to look for plugins)

I really did enjoy playing this server, I will remember you all and remember the happiness you brought into my life. Thank you Tom for providing such a wonderful server. I can’t imagine how hard you must work. I wish you all the very best in life.

    What about PVP only outside of ALL claims?

    Players who have purchased a shop warp should be entitled to a PVP-free zone. There’s no “cheating” or reason to get upset when someone has paid real cash for it. As I said eons ago when I first joined, I’d pay to be able to make an area or myself as a player PVP-toggleable, because all I want to do is build.

    Bounties are useless. It’s more of a joke and a way to troll people minding their business. People place bounties on others without reason, just to make others hunt them. Half of the people with bounties end up using a ‘friend’ to kill them and claim the money.

    /seige should be the ONLY way to injure someone inside their claim. If JoeMC2003 wants to build a house and doesn’t claim his area first, he’s open to attack. If it’s claimed and StabbyMcKillKill tries to kill him, it should read that JoeMC2003 is in a protected claim and give information on how to /seige him. It’s a temporary fix, I think, because then we need to revisit the rules.

    Already we have people brazenly saying that they use a friend once a month to log on, claim some things, and stay off so they can “never be seiged” while building or whatever else. Unicorn recently boasted about that, and I asked Markusi13 about it, who said it’s okay? When I had asked if using an alt account to claim land to be unseigeable was permissible, I was told No – it’s cheating.

     

    While I expect there to be fighting, killing, and looting based on the theme of the server, I do not expect to be harrassed by bounties from players I’ve never spoken to or around or tracked all over the LiveMap, out to the middle of the ocean or deep underground, just because someone is ‘bored’ and looking for something to do. It’s not about the loot. It’s not about the piracy. It’s pure unreasonable PVP simply because there seems to be the idea that because “lol i r a pirat, this is a pirat server, fite back or shut up.” I’m seriously fed up with this childish bullying of anyone and everyone based on that excuse and I’m really sick of hearing, from the mods, that being spawn-killed and chased for DAYS is okay and should be handled by the player alone.

    I work. I’ve donated money. Finding a PVP-free solution is NOT HARD.

    I agree with Verihax. This is a real problem, and Wog isn’t the first person to want to quit because other players were allowed to harass others in any way they please.

    We have rules like ‘don’t build a bad build to greif another persons town’ and ‘be polite and respectful’ but when people started building troll builds in CoveTown, everyone told me to get over it. When players are getting harassed on the daily by the same players, for no reason other than being mean, people just say ‘it’s a pirate server, get over it.’

    The fact is, if you are told repeatedly to ‘get over it’ when a small handful of people make the server unplayable to a large number of people…. Those people are going to ‘get over it’ right over to another server, and never look back. New people who see how it’s hand;ed are certainly not going to stick around.

    I agree PVP should be allowed in most areas; but man if something isn’t done to allow the builders to co-exist, this server is going to just have a bunch of big empty builds. It’s not just buyer protection in shops, this is about a huge part of what makes pirates run (commerce) being inaccessible due to a few players.

     

    Isn’t there a way we can designate whole areas as PVP or not PVP? Such as have certain shops/towns as known pvp centers, like cove; but also give players the ability to build peacefully in their own area. I think either the paid warp should allow a lack of pvp in your claim, and to cut down on abuse we can say that leaving the pvp free claim makes you vulnerable (such as not being able to pvp, but being weak to attack) so that people don’t use pvp free zone as a means to attack others. I also think a PVP free zone (if done this way) should be on a person by person basis; so that Gods and the other mods can see ok this person actually does have a shop/town/reason to not want pvp.

    Few quick points:

    We can toggle all claims to protect people, but then what’s the point of having PVP?

    We would need yet another plugin to manage PVP, we have so many already its getting stupid.

    There has not been a solution given that solves all points I have raised, Give me a balanced fair solution and we can trial it, without this being hot headed and stamping your feet on the floor gets nowhere, there are many reasons disabling PVP for only certain players is a really bad move, and very unbalanced.

    I am not the only member of staff, all player based issues need to be sent to a member of staff Via our forum http://piratemc.com/forums/server-support/ Remove the bad players, you remove the issue.

    So far we have these unbalanced ideas:

    • Disable PVP in our 5000 claims.
    • Disable PVP for players that choose to be PVP free (que the 10000 messages every single time I log in, of “hacker” I cant kill them, because I have time to deal with that shit)
    • Have Worldguard areas that are PVP free that someone has to manage claims in for shops, who gets these, who sets these up? who managed these claims?

    PVP-free zones are a double-edged sword. It’s good for the buyers who have to bear the brunt of griefing. It’s also good for the rascals who would, as Godsdead said, camp the shops and hide in the safe areas when people come to intercept them. Normal players would have fewer ways to stop or punish these players within safe zones – unless there was a way to make all aggressors lose their “safe” tag for a certain period of time after committing a crime.

    Disabling PVP on a large scale would turn us into hippie towny server. Do we want to be a hippie towny server? Giving players the option to toggle PVP would cause abuse and destroy any sense of fun and danger this server has to offer. Forcing PVP players to play the PVE game is just as unfair as forcing PVE players to play the PVP game. Who would even activate PVP mode unless they meant to raid or kill?!

    So I think Verhihax’ idea is fair middle ground: Choosing a set number of small PVP-free zones (shops) should be available to those who have donated for a town warp. Alternatively the prison system mentioned in Ma_c_hi’s post could be used to automatically send players who attack others in a shop zone to gaol.

    Those who don’t donate can use the power of redstone to build relatively safe shops.

    d go wo with the whole pvp free zones should be were a warp is placed. But its about how much range the pvpfree area gets from the warp point.

    and does it get expanded I you expand your city.

     

     

    Since most shops are usually right in front of a warp maybe limit the area to cover 50 blocks in each direction.

    Yep, unfortunately there isn’t going to be a 100% fair solution however hard we try. But this proposal WOULD stops more safe areas from being used than are actually needed. For those who don’t donate for a warp, there are ample creative ways of making shops safe with redstone contraptions. As for the shop being used as an unraidable base… /siege rules should apply to the safe zone as they currently already do (enabling PVP against only the owner IF he’s hanging around that claim).

    Please correct me if this isn’t possible from a plugin point of view.
