I guess what I was getting at, for helping the newbies with information, would be something like the ingame bible. A written book that players have, which gives the important information. Personally, I dislike having to go read forums or such, wikis, before i play the game, and learn through mistakes. I would be happy to help in writing a helper book, describing warps, plugins, and tips for players.
March 11, 2016 at 3:01 am #30603This is madness, and I do not agree. I mean I don’t agree with people not being hunted, I thought that is half the point of the server.
If it gets to the point of the light level just remove the whole map. It would be pointless for the most part in my opinion. We can just use the paper maps.?Smokeyriver?
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

Just to clear up anyone that’s confused; You will be hidden if you are inside or if its night, and only shown on the map if its daylight is what im trying to get at haha Another option, just found this:
# If true, player positions/status is protected (login with ID with dynmap.playermarkers.seeall permission required for info other than self) protected-player-info: false
The reason im thinking about this, is I hate people that get hunted down, thats the entire reason I think we need a change, when we have crews now they target people.
If I may, when me and Whitaker joined this server, we were quite excited to be able to have a balance between nice buildings (Factions does not have that really) and also being able to raid and PVP. Although it wasn’t quite balanced, the rules that have been added in the past few months (No Nether Portal raiding for example) and even before, have made the PVP side of the server more and more difficult. When the Outlaws and Lotus got disbanded, the server became…boring. Everyone was just building and there was only a few people going around killing others. The server wasn’t exciting anymore because there was no conflict. This server is very enjoyable when the server has conflict between crews and people. If you remove the ability to see others on the live map, this server will become boring and feel more like a factions server for the people who enjoy the PVP side. A pirate server needs it’s pirates.
March 11, 2016 at 7:23 am #30609Thing is, not everyone lives for PVP and conflict. Building isn’t some evil act, its something that many people like to do in minecraft.
My thoughts, are give it a trial run, see how it affects things in game.

Since when did I ever say that anyone lives for only PVP and conflict? My post actually clearly states that I loved the balance between the two back in the summer time. Making it so people can stay off the map by staying out of the day light or not being able to see anyone besides yourself on the map will only make the server more like Factions. You ever play Factions? No live map, no way to really find people besides talking to other people and simply searching. Sounds great right? No. Everyone builds giant boxes and lives underground. Making the live map like this won’t encourage nice building on the surface, it’ll only encourage people to live underground or in boxes. It only helps those people.
So thing is, not everyone lives for just building. PVP isn’t some evil act, its something that many people like to do in Minecraft.
March 11, 2016 at 11:48 am #30611Well, it’s common knowledge that the 18th century pirates used GPS and Google Maps to carry out raids on unsuspecting settlements.
In all seriousness though, the current map system is very one-sided toward the attackers in PVP. To remain hidden from the map currently, a defender must stay underground indefinitely or drink an absurd number of invisibility potions, whereas an attacker can hide from the map long enough to hunt by simply drinking a single invisibility potion.
I don’t understand this argument that increasing the necessary light level to remain hidden will cause players to hide in stone brick boxes. The vast majority of players already do that under the current system. If you are barricaded in a stone brick box, it doesn’t matter if you are hidden from the map because nobody can get to you anyway. Maybe there are other legitimate reasons not to raise the light level, but that argument is just plain silly.
I would be much more inclined to build a nice house out of wood if I could remain hidden inside it. It would benefit the PVP’ers too, because it would encourage me to take the risk of not building a siegeproof base.
March 11, 2016 at 12:28 pm #30613Well as a newer player to the server, I think things are decent the way they are. I think instead of making it to where ignorant players are pampered and protected(therefore making that system abuse-able by players who wish to be left alone or hide like pansies) that you make the current system… easier to get to know? For instance, when i joined this server, I had some help. I was told quite a few things about how to lock chests, how not to get hunted down, etc. For newer players, who dont have that type of help when they start, they should have easier access to those types of information, like how to avoid showing on the map, how to make secure bases, and things like that.
Issue being, is that you have a healthy attitude. Most new players do not!
As for explaining how to hide on the map, its writing on the map page… I don’t think i can get any clearer than that. http://piratemc.com/map/
Also, I think that some of the other plugins that are considered broken(stats? Chat filter?) should be fixed or tweaked before the game is completely changed. I mean I saw the word “analogue” filtered just now..
analogue = anal at the beginning. its filtering Anal, not analogue.
Live stats, as I have said already, is not showing on the stats.piratemc.com live, as we moved servers and the database cannot be pulled directly as it stands, I need to setup a second mysql database with replication. All in due time.

Its noy enjoyable for crews to go hunting new players that are just setting up, its completly out of order to bully single players as massive groups. There is no way to justify doing that.
And the portal rule was added day 1 we got griefprevention, YEARS ago, it was never written as its obvious, and not many people knew about it so drawing attention to it would have been a bad move.
@smokeyriver, its not removing the map, its hiding some people so they are not riaded…Looks like nobody liked this idea.
No need to attack me, it was a suggestion.
