[Suggestion] Different minimum claim sizes

Hi,

Minecraft railways have a lot of potential, and everyone would love to have one leading to their allies base. But when you dig long tunnel, spend resources and time placing railways, you get stuck on the most banal thing: claim blocks. As of now, each claim as to be at least 8 x 8 blocks large. That is usually size you exceed with any build, expect any sort of transportation claim. Why couldnt it be minimum are of 64? It would serve its function as well, and malicious 64 x 1 claims are banned in rules anyway. They could be deleted in case of abuse. Or you could at least make the minimum width something like 3 or 4. This would make custom travel routes significantly cheaper and more enjoyable. Finally, all players could make bridges, railways, cannals and other awesome infrastructure builds as long as they have the materials.

So what do you think?

Even if there is not config for min area setting, there surely is a way to set min dimensions to 3×3.

This would be soooo super helpful, I think a 3-4 block minimum would be best.

In addition to transport, this could benefit alot of players who have multi-claim cities, where there might be a small, several block gap that is less than 8×8.

I’d like to see this too. I presume the current limit of 8×8 is to prevent people from making long claims across the map which would disrupt other players, preventing them from digging tunnels underneath for example. It would be awesome if there was a way to limit a claim to a certain height…

But anyway, I’m sure we’d see many more transportation projects spring up with smaller claim sizes!

I can second the notion of it being annoying with 8×8 claims inside my city, since i have one big clusterfuck of claims not fitting all the way with each other.. so yeah i have gabs here and there.. It’s places without any value, like a little gap on a pathway or something similar but i occationally see griefing in those spots, not all that annoying to fix it, but it would be nice to be able to make more flexible claims..

I guess i could also just plan my claims in a better way, but.. yeah, as i said, its not that big of a deal. It would be nice with 4×4 claims tho :DDD

I dont see any reason not to test smaller claim sizes, what are we thinking? 3×3 claims?

Yes @Godsdead, 3×3 would be ideal because that is the size you need to make 1 block wide railway tunnel with sides claimed so nobody can break in. I can assure you that there will be thousands and thousands of blocks long railways all over the server. I know multiple people who kind of stopped their projects because 3k blocks long rail would take 24k claim blocks…

Michael you can actually see one, if you go to /warp nether up top theres an unfinished rail simply because i didn’t have the claim space to work on the project. Not for an 8×8 claim, anyways.

It would make more sense to have an odd number than an even number as many things get placed in the middle of claims, Doors, Rail etc, so there is symmetry.

I will go to 3×3 so this opens up the opportunity to lay rail.

@Azuries That nether rail is a server project, I will happily give you materials and claim it in an admin claim, if you show/lay out where its going to go.
