I just had this idead that rowing boats/ships might be usefull.
I checked on the movecraft side and the version i found didn’t give a way to do something like this.
However if someone of you has an idea about this i would really love this.I just thought that a rowing boat/ship could consist of a set number of players who hold wooden spades(oars) and one navigator.
This would exspecially be usefull for people that have no or limited acces to wool.
Also it would allow to build smaller ships that work better with portcullis.
It could be a little bigger than a raft and need players in place of coal to move so…if there is a way this could work it would be awesome and all those deckhands would be needed for travelling. Thanks for reading my crazy ideas…once again
February 2, 2015 at 8:58 pm #8512What about standard minecraft boats?
Just build a bunch of those, give them to the deckhands in question and start sailing!
Let’s not overcomplicate things 😛
February 2, 2015 at 9:02 pm #8513I also don’t understand your point about portecoulissante and the gathering of wool. Gates work perfectly fine on any stationary ship and the world isn’t so large that you can’t run to the biome next-doors to get some wool…
February 3, 2015 at 12:09 am #8522Well mostly my idea was to make the ships less tall so it would be easier to drive them through portcullis gates.^^
The thing about wool was propably just a lame excuse for the whole idea. Also the watertransportation wasn’t my mainidea on this, because as you said one can easily use boats therefore.
My mainidea was that it could help to make not so tall and maybe even less wide(because no big sails) ships that could even be capable of traveling through areas like swamps or rivers while they carry some stuff. You still could build really small sailingships but….i kinda got stuck with the idea of rowingships…reading fantasy and stuff….still it would be nice to know if something like this could possibly get put in the game.
Maybe it could work somewhat like the manoverboardthing, just the other way round?
Cheking if there are enough players onboard that hold a wooden spade?
(at the moment this really only is theoretically because gods is busy with serverstuff i am just interested and busy…sorry)February 3, 2015 at 12:10 am #8523I think his point is without a sail portculli wouldnt have to be so huge for smaller towns.
Also boats when hit by another boat/land will break; I think itd be difficult to get the same effect witht hem, more frustrating than fun
I totally support this; not sure how itd be done but implementing the possibility to ‘row’ with 2+ people would be awesome not just for a rowboat but for larger ships with big crews as well.
I dream of a future where sails will stow themselves like portculli (only less messy) and a crew can row together for a while 😀
February 3, 2015 at 1:20 am #8527Plus viking ships? Count me in matey!
February 3, 2015 at 3:34 pm #8550But there’s no rule stating that a ship’s sail and hull must be large! I have created a small rowboat-ish ship using a dhow sign, which consists of the minimal amount of blocks (which I believe is 25?). Be creative! Haha
The only thing that we don’t have is the necessity to have two players on one ship, of which I don’t really see why you would like to have that implemented anyway 😛
Imagine your fellow deckhand leaving the game all of a sudden because, say.. he needs to take his dog for a walk. You’ll be stuck on your rowboat, waiting for him to return! Especially as deckhand, you’ll be an easy target.
I do like the idea @Azure gave; the stowable sails.

Quiver at the sight o’ his fiendish vessel!
