This has happened to me several times in the past few weeks.

If you have a post in a thread and you edit it a number of times, it will disappear without warning. By this I mean it will literally become invisible. If you edit it after other people have made posts under yours, there will be no sign that you participated in the conversation.

Also, when viewing long answers in forum feeds, there is an “expand” option. This used to reveal the whole comment when you clicked on it. It now opens the entire conversation on a new page instead, which is annoying.

I have no idea what causes this glitch, but there is a workaround until we manage to find a fix. In order to make those posts come back, you must reply to them and that will make them show up as spam. You can then remove the post from the spam filter and you’re good to go.

As far as I know, this only happens when you choose to not log the edit, so I guess if you log every edit, it shouldn’t be a problem.

I edit posts daily, and have a few that have hundreds of edits, I’ve never experienced this, give me a way to reproduce this and we might be able to create a bug report.

Sure, start a test thread with three entries. Then edit the second entry perhaps two dozen times in a row. Sooner or later it will disappear. Perhaps also log the occasional edit (but not all of them). This is how I’ve lost three very long posts in the past two weeks.

I suspect the spam filter might have something to do with this phenomenon. Also, Iridus seems to have found some good temporary workarounds while it’s being diagnosed.

This forum software is a piece of shit, but were too deep to go changing now 🙁

I did notice something from years ago when I set it up, theres actually a “conflict” with how I setup the url structure.

at present topics are shows at piratemc.com/topic/topicname which makes no sence, it should be piratemc.com/forums/topic/topicname but when I set this up, the main forum index displays each forum as piratemc.com/forums/forum/piratecraft-updates instead of piratemc.com/forums/piratecraft-updates, adds in an extra /forum in there, I think this is what wound me up so I renamed the forums index and forums slug the same, not sure if this would have any impact but its something I can test.

Issue with updating something like that is it breaks all existing links posted elsewhere 🙁

Let me try that test thread you said, see if i can get it happening.

edit: Are you talking about group forums? or general?

    Test post please ignore

Zilch, how big are your posts? maybe you’re reaching max limit on the amount the post can store and its not telling you theres a text limit?

It’s been in general and in private forums. I’ll try it on your thread.

    @Godsdead

I have also noticed it’s no longer possible to delete duplicate posts from a private forum feeds.

Note: This problem started at the same time as the other mentioned issues. It doesn’t apply to your own posts, but other rather people’s posts if you’re a private forum admin.

Here is a link to a new topic I made in the “Bugs and Glitches” forum section. I edited the post until it suddenly disappeared:

The only thing I can think of is meeting a data cap somewhere, like exceeding the amount of characters you can store in a post, or the amount of edits..

Definitely not #2. It took me a good 20 edits to get this post to disappear. On another post 10 minutes earlier it happened on the first edit.

The size of the text does not seem to make a difference either in my eyes. I’ve had very short posts disappear, but also very, very long posts.

I’m going to keep this thread active, as the problem is still ongoing:

-o- In addition to posts disappearing, it is no longer possible to delete other people’s posts in the private forum feed.
-o- If you click “Load More” at the bottom of the feed, it will list the next 20 results and hide the previous 20. Doing this used to add 20 previous replies to the bottom of the feed, so you could see them all.
-o- Commenting to a post seems bugged in the feed. You have to open the post and reply from there for it to work.

These things started for me at the same time that the disappearing posts glitch appeared.

Do you have a screen recorder? It would probably help if you had that running while editing posts, so if they disappear, gods can see exactly what happens and when.

Just an idea. It’s a bit of effort, but I think it could help.

What makes this bug worse is that spam filter prevents you from reposting what you just wrote unless you change the first few sentences sufficiently:

Here’s another example. Top post very long, edited it a few times and it dissipated, only leaving lazy’s reply.

I don’t even know how to reproduce this post as I seem not to be able to get access to the full potion of what I wrote. It is listed as a feed in group activity, but I can only get to the top few lines and copy them.
