I like that you are able to store it. You could get jumped any time by any one, so one should store as much as they can to minimize losses in such a case. We’d have a stone brick box hiding epidemic because people wouldn’t want to lose their levels.

September 4, 2016 at 5:45 pm #40312Keeping it would be a terrible idea. First of all Mending has completely ruined PvP and I’m pretty sure that the Minecraft developers did not expect people to have stacks and stacks of these when they implemented Mending (what I’m basically trying to say is that Mending is not meant to be used with an absurd amount of bottles of enchanting). The only real reason why people want to keep this plugin is because they know that they depend on it. A battle between two people should definitely not last for more that 5-10 minutes. All bottles of enchanting do is extend this time even further by a lot since the only real way of dealing damage now is waiting for armor to break due to steak and items like golden apples. Now, some people are saying that villagers would just completely replace /bottle but as someone mentioned above it takes an extreme amount of emerald blocks to obtain just a stack of bottles of xp. Before, four inventory slots in some player’s inventories were taken up by a spare set of armor. That is now replaced with a stack of bottles of xp which is probably more that one extra set worth of durability. The removal of /bottle would definitely increase the value of bottles of enchanting but it would turn them into a limited resource more or less.
Spot on about the devs and mending, the bottle plugin was a legacy feature left over from before the days of mending.
I love your write-up @Goldieh thanks for taking the time to show your point of view across, its another way of explaining the damage the stacks of bottles are doing in a clear way 🙂

There is an infinite amount of ways to earn XP in minecraft, storing it was never intended by the developers. Everyone likes it, because it makes everything super easy for them but its not good for the server in general, nobody likes to get rid of something that makes them a GOD and makes the game really really easy, of course you like it, that’s why I added it! But actually stepping back and thinking about the impact it actually has is dramatic in a very negative way to gameplay overall. We are not trying to allow people to minimize losses, otherwise I would just enable not loosing your XP on death, its literally a permission node. If I wanted people to not loose XP on death I would have enabled it and not needed an XP plugin to store it.
September 4, 2016 at 6:38 pm #40314What it seems to me is that people are forgetting that there are also many ways to spend xp. From what I’ve read, people are focused on the idea that when they go into a fight they are going to be risking losing 50+ levels. The simple thing to do would be to go to and enchantment table and enchant a second set of gear for a fight maybe? There are tons of items in minecraft that you can enchant and hey, if you get a bad enchantment you can then sell it, make a few bucks and then buy the right enchantment you need. It also prevents players just rushing into a battle after someone yells “I need backup!!” I don’t think there would be many people rushing into a full on battle with 30+ levels on them.
A promise made is a debt unpaid.
