Ok, so I’ve been thinking about books.People write them, and some are very good. So some of them get sold, but then what happens if that goes missing? Possibly hours of work down the drain.
SoI’ve been looking up some plugins and I found some printing press ones. Now, two haven’t been updated since 2013/2014, but one was updated late last year, and I can’t say whether it not it will work in 1.10 but it’s worth a shot. I’ll reply to this when I’m on my computer (using my phone right now, so expect some spelling mistakes).
@GodsDead I’d really appreciate it if you could even check it out, because I’m currently working in a book that I’m trying to make mind of long. Thank you. This post that I posted on this post about something is probably useles information.............
September 17, 2016 at 11:57 am #40718This is the link to the bukkit page, it’s for 1.8 but it might work still:
https://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/booksuite/
(another thing, this alows for the copying of enchanted books, so you’ll have to change that in the config)
also does anyone else have any suggestions for some new plugins that could possibly make a differnce?

September 17, 2016 at 2:04 pm #40724Can’t you copy books with the written book and a book and quill in a crafting grid? If your gonna sell them, make it a copy of a copy, so nobody can mass produce and sell your book

@GTerwilligerSeptember 17, 2016 at 3:39 pm #40730yes making copies and keeping the original is important. another tip is that you can write it on the side in like notepad and then copy/paste when done. The only bad thing about that is if the size of text is too big for the page it won’t paste any of it. Also keep in mind page breaks – have word wrap off in notepad.

September 17, 2016 at 10:24 pm #40737I like he library idea! I could help by being a librarian? I spilled water on my keyboard and am waiting on the replacement. It’s depressing seein my laptop lay in a heap in the corner D: can’t wait to join back on!~ I'm always right, when I'm not wrong...

@GTerwilligerSeptember 17, 2016 at 11:48 pm #40738I have a better ship plugin the server might be able to use. Although it may require slight adaptation I believe using this instead will run smoother and handle better with less tools and signs to use.

September 18, 2016 at 8:26 am #40747I’ll sell fake stories to scam people 😛
Ironic
September 18, 2016 at 10:12 am #40748Well, the library sounds awesome, but what about people who want to collect all the profits? (Because I would assume that the author gets 50(+)%) We could probably do this anyways
Another instance where the printing press would come in handy is if a crew needed to hand out something important in a book form to other members (idk, maybe battle strategies or something). Either way it’s up to @GodsDead to decide. (Just take this into consideration)

This is a client side mod, not a plugin, we cant use it sorry.

Not for personal gain, the library has been planned we just need someone to collect books regularly from people, if you want to make a book store then you will use the built in mechanics to copy books and setup your own bookshop.
It cant be split profits, this is extremely bias to have an infinite shop for a few players in an admin claim that makes them money for a one time book write, if you are really that concerned about gaining profit, then the server will pay per book, not for every sale, but it will have to be a good book!

Yeah, please! What I can do, is sub-claim the library, and some locked chests somewhere where you can go around collecting books off players that have written really good books, we will need to put signs through the library to organise it, so we could have a tutorials section for instance.

I likr this idea, it could be a new form of competition for the server. Put a nice -one time- price tag on good books and it will encourage people to make them for the staff shop. Then we can get people making all kinds of tips/tricks books to help out newer players 😀
Oh also as far as other plugins were concerned, we were talking about McMMO in game the other day. It would be cool to have for basic skills (mining, wood cutting, etc) if it is possible to disable the stats/boosts for the pvp aspect. It’d be neat to have, leveling skills could kind of go along with ranking up your pirating, But definitely don’t want it giving a pvp boost to already OP people. Its been a long time since I worked on its configs so I don’t know off hand if it could be configured this way.

Lets do it!
What are the rules? what is the prize? How many books per person? I saw this Recipe book once that had amazing coloured ascii art at the front of it, it was epic.
This http://minecraft.tools/en/book.php is a fantastic resource for writing and saving your books 🙂
September 19, 2016 at 8:09 pm #40786what do you mean by “not for personal Gain”? is the entire point of selling a book not for personal gain? and wait, did you just say that the author doesn’t get any cut of the sales? because that’s just ridiculous, somebody could have spent days on a book, and they decide to sell it in the library, but (oh wait) “I don’t get profits from this, oh well, It’s charity. So……”
well, i don’t really care, so ok, I’ll just do it the long way.

September 19, 2016 at 8:32 pm #40788Here is an example of a well-made book. Disclaimer: it’s mine! 😉
Having made a number of in-game books, I have to say that it is a major pain in the neck to edit them. It would be great if there were a number of server commands helping with the process, such as:
- Clearing the entire book and resetting all of its NBT tags (there are a number of issues with /book right now, I can go into detail if anyone is interested).
- Clearing a specific page.
- Removing a specific page.
- Inserting & moving pages around.
- Replacing parts of a page (something like Find & Replace would be epic for correcting misspelled words).
Does anyone know if there are any good plugins that allow this? I know of MassiveBook but it comes with some annoying dependencies.

they should also add in upgradable books, like combine 2 book and quills in a crafting table to make it 100 pages, or do it 3 times to get 200 pages 😉
