Hello, I made a post asking if netherrack could become a soft block but it seems to have been deleted? I don’t understand why, but I think netherrack is too easy to find and attain to be a hard block. It’s basically the Nether world’s version of dirt.
October 20, 2015 at 7:36 am #22747Yeah, that’s odd, you created a topic, and it disappeared. Likely due to the website changing hosts or something. But yes, it’s OP if that’s a hard block.

Correct! @elexandre1994 posted to the old website node.
Netherrack is a good idea to be considered a soft block, we have dirt as a soft block in the main world and this isn’t considered a strong block by any means, I like this idea. I will leave this forum open for anyone that can think of a reason why this would be a bad idea.

Ok, with that said, I completely agree with E, nether rack should be a soft block indeed.

You haven’t given a reason, this reply is confusing

Odd.
Well I think I’ve worked out the case of RS’s missing message I think.
October 20, 2015 at 6:18 pm #22768personally I think nether rack shouldent be hard because I have been going by the logic that: all blocks that are soft (easy to break) are soft blocks and all blocks that are hard (taking longer times to break) are hard blocks but I guess the story line thing that godz said would make a lot of sense too
October 20, 2015 at 10:20 pm #22776Even though I agree with E that it is by far cheapest available source of hard blocks, I believe that it should stay as it is.
Have you ever wondered, why nobody actually uses it? Yeah, it is free and safe, but it is ugly as hell. Nobody EVER uses it in overworld because it is literally the most disgusting texture there is in minecraft, and nobody wants to paint their base with it.
On the other hand, do you know how ugly most blocks such as stone or stone brick look in nether? About equally as bad as netherrack looks in the overworld…
I think that you should keep it as it is, just because it does not really give that much of an advantage (stone is not that expensive…) and it is really not used to get advantage anywhere….

@michty – Have you ever tried to siege somebody, but because their base is in the nether, you can’t get far? Trust me, it sucks. Netherrack should be treated as basically dirt, and it’s irrelevant if it doesn’t look good or not because not everyone cares about what their base looks like as long as it protects their stuff.
I would also like to add that all it takes to get netherrack is a basic pickaxe…you have to cook cobblestone to get stone. Quite the difference between the two.

There is netherbrick… the nether version of stonebrick, you can make this from netherrack. netherrack should be treated like dirt in my opinion.
October 21, 2015 at 4:16 pm #22795I personally don’t think it should be converted to a soft block. It’s rather numerous, but the thing is not many players just go to the nether often. In the overworked it’s a nice decorative block, but it would be a pain if you couldn’t use it for a defense manor. Another point would be the differences between overworld and nether construction. If you build something in the overworld it’s quite simple to protect things. Just add a quick wall of stone brick and a wall and floor and you’re done. If you were to do so in the nether there would be much more difficulty in protecting your build, as the convential nether builds are within the floor or ceiling, on a three dimetional surface. While technically in the overworld one has the option to build down, not many do this, so overworld builds are almost always on the surface- a two dimensional plain. So players would be pained to excavate their build in the nether then calculate the area for another layer of hard blocks to protect from invaders. My third argument would have to be that in overworld to nether, netherrack is to stone. If one builds down in the overworld and uses the stone layers for their base, they are automatically protected by the fact that stone is a hard block. Why should it not be the same for nether-going players?

I support changing it to a soft block, for the sole reason that the entire nether is naturally siegeproof otherwise. Then again, so is the End…
