Crates are buggy, Im probably going to have to remove them, back up your stuff!

Crates for movecraft has been a legacy feature for when Chests did not work on ships, being legacy it was only kept in the code to keep old servers that used it running without issue. Now Crates are only used to bug, glitch and repair items, I got sick and tired of this and requested to the developer to be able to turn off crates, well in the latest version hes repected quite a few things I have requested, so im exited to improve ships.

The first thing im doing is removing Crates, there is no use or purpose for them at all (That I can think of) They are buggy and have caused server crashes in the past, so start moving what you have in crates asap, Im not sure when im going to turn them off, but it will be soon!

Wow, this is such a shame. Storage crates have been a must for every secret storage room, as you can lock a chest and crate with 1 block; and crates can be used in a 1 block space with only 1 opening, in any direction (unlike chests which can only do this in 1 direction; up).

It’s understandable that, if it’s a buggy feature, it should be removed. However I think there should be enough time given to deal with this change, as well as maybe a missive about it? I know I am going to have to redesign all of my store rooms, now that crates are no longer an option.

Problem is, if they are removed (and the items in them) before players have a chance to redesign their storage rooms, anyone who uses crates is going to be VERY upset especially if there’s very little time given to get the word out. There’s also many people who don’t log on as often as others or might be on vacation, and will come home to half their stuff missing.

Not only this but another player raised concern about how much wood had been used on their hoard, which was mostly made of storage crates.

I think alot of player will be upset to hear about this change; but if it’s buggy then it’s buggy. Just please at least give people ample time to become aware of the change and make plans accordingly; otherwise you may have a large amount of players log on, only to ragequit because half their items are just gone.

It hasn’t been updated in years, At any point the database file could get corrupt and all items lost, this has already happened twice.

By all means, if you find an alternative then please tell me about it, I have not been able to find a decent working, updated crates alternative.

As it currently stands, crates are nice, but there is only negatives on my pros and cons list for them.

Hey so, I just had an idea. What if we setup a server sell sign at cove for crates? I think a lot of people will be less upset if they see a money or wood return on their crates? I know I’d seen it mentioned by a few players that they’d made a lot of crates and would be upset when they lost those materials.

This would also urge people to move their stuff faster, so that they can sell the crates.

Nah, its only wood. Ill give away a few saplings for people that get raw over it.

I do like the look of crates over the sever though, as they are piratey.

So I might just keep them, but this is a warning that they are super buggy.

If they are buggy, then remove them. Wood is easy to get, and although they look good, there are numerous texture packs that make chests look good.

It’s a shame they’re buggy, because I use them for decoration as well as basic storage. I’ve never had a problem with things getting un-named or such; Boatswain Helmets and Gunner Clusters still come out, weeks later, named as such.

If they do have to go, I would appreciate some kind of get-back or selling point. Wood might be “easy” to get, but you essentially have to create a double-chest to create a storage crate (4 logs per crate!)

Shame we can’t have fully custom items, like Barrels.

That’s a good point; I know I use dokucraft which is less realistic and more rpg style giving it that perfect pirate theme. I’m sure with shaders it would be amazing (but unfortunately I can’t run those until my new comp is setup aha..)
