I know were not on 1.11 yet, im still waiting for a developer to fix a bug (yawn) But lets get the 1.12 discussion running! @chailey sent staff this video today of all the new blocks and the creative save inventory feature. What do you think so far?
February 10, 2017 at 9:57 am #46968My first thought? LSD. O.O
It would be nice if we could have some new wood and stone materials? Concrete and concrete powder aside – for ship builders like us, new garish pink blocks are not going to change much. xD Also, why can they not be bothered to make new stair and slab blocks to go with the new designs?! We’ve only had one new stair block since 1.7… 🙁
But yes, it is good that they are finally implementing blocks that will indeed be useful for less serious builds! The designs of all the new blocks are visually stunning, especially the terracotta.
The creative inventory saving function will be a godsend!!
February 10, 2017 at 11:56 am #46979Concrete blocks are a dream come true for pixel artists. The new concrete powder blocks make for more varied terrain in adventure maps (Ex: Brown powder for mud.), not to mention some interesting puzzle mechanics. On top of that, we finally have some more decent looking blocks to work with in our builds.
(Still waiting on more stairs and slabs…)
Terracotta blocks…
Black looks the best by far, not to mention it reminds me somewhat of the Twilight from Twilight Princess. Light gray would be amazing for futuristic builds, while white would fit perfectly in a chapel or something of the sorts.
Tl;dr: YES.

haha I was like, what the hell has Jeb been smoking, these terracotta blocks are bananas. I also don’t get why they don’t just add the blocks missing, I think the arrow blocks may be a little bit useful, but you can just use a custom head at present, I WISH they would create a block where you can just set its parameters, like if you had a block you could set its hex color on, then it could be any color, and therefore have infinite possibilities for texture packs, just have the resource pack use a specific hex color to display a certain image, that’s just one block then.
Heres your LSD shot Paul
Heres a few good examples I saw (album) but it still looks so god damn ugly and out of place..
Brown concrete looks better than dirt
Now the concrete has its own insane properties, since it can set when it meets water… I think this is going to change redstone.
February 10, 2017 at 5:11 pm #46983The concrete blocks and powder are neat and fill a gap of colors builders lacked. There has been no proper white. The clay is more of a cream and quartz has a texture the segments quartz blocks from one another.
My question is who asked for terracotta?
Like, in theory they are pretty nice but there are alot of other blocks that would be way more useful then these cheesy 70’s looking mosaics. Even if these blocks had better textures, there are so many other things that are lacking in the mine craft building palette.
Where are wood specific trap doors? More brick variants (how do we not have sandstone brick?!?), and just an increased number of slabs and stairs for blocks missing should be some glaring things ripe for implementation! Even different material buttons, walls, pressure plates etc would add a finer level of detail without reinventing the wheel! These are way more practical than these niche terracotta blocks. Don’t get me wrong, they have some potential and shine in specific situations, but if Mojang is implementing an update for builders, just adding some of the basic concepts already in game to different materials would be most useful/beneficial.
Just my quickly typed two cents 🙂
February 10, 2017 at 5:30 pm #46984^ That pink slab is making my head spin! xD
I think Nicky hits the nail on the head. These new blocks are fine and all, but we would all literally prefer new basic dirt textures than something sparkly and flashy. Those terracotta blocks must be used sparingly or they will absolutely destroy a build.
What I find absolutely insane is that we still don’t have a scroll function for choosing which painting you want to hang up. I mean, c’mon, paintings were added back in 2010! Now in 2017 we get this:
-o- Paintings
Will now try to place the largest possible in the available space it has.
This is still not what everyone wants… Why not make an interface like on the enchanting tables at the very least? The way they are currently implemented baffles me. And can we not get some new images at long last? ._.
February 10, 2017 at 5:50 pm #46985Paintings are my pet hate. Not are they a disaster to place, but there are shockingly few designs. I’ve spent ages trying to get the right image, only to accidently destroy it moments later because the task becomes monotonous.
My preferences? More head designs, a larger design of door (2×3?), a weapon rack of sorts, and some sort of steel ‘bar’ that goes across horizontally and vertically, that functions like a single pain of glass when placed alone, or side by side. Jail cells would look awesome, coat hangers, parkour, a spit for fires, bed frames, you name it.
Plus, a candle would be awesome. Just merge a plant pot in a crafting table with string and (slime? Clay?) and boom, something that would look far better than plastering butt ugly torches or giant lanterns everywhere.
Besides that, I can’t wait to tear down all my drab clay and replace with this concrete.
February 10, 2017 at 10:08 pm #46989all i can say is: Give me that fucking terracotta XD
just a thing to mention the concrete powder’s water properties may pose a problem for grief prevention (i.e. sand cannons, like the one u posted) just wanted to point that out in case the dev doesnt notice lol

February 11, 2017 at 12:46 am #46992I don’t know… but I think this update may be titled, The Decoration Update, or The Designer Update?
