We are missing a really important section on the website, A getting started guide!
TropicFruitz created this getting started guide 4 months ago, Im sure we can adapt it to be much better, Im not a fan of its structure, im sure as a team we can create a fantastic getting started guide for brand new players.

April 27, 2015 at 12:30 am #12807It should mention how you need to build with brick and stone brick and use iron doors and how rare animals are.
April 27, 2015 at 1:17 am #12808rare animals?

April 27, 2015 at 7:19 am #12814Well animals are rare, because most new players don’t care and just kill wild animals…that’s why we have nearly no pigs around….or even wild sheeps or cows.
However we should mention the overall difference between solid and soft blocks because not only stone bricks but also wood logs or stone blocks work just fine if you are trying to build a bunker….tat’s why everyone should have a tree farm 😉
April 27, 2015 at 11:36 am #12824Soft & Strong blocks are in the siege section of the website/wiki, I don’t think that is the kind of information that goes into a getting started guide at all! Read my top edit, its a description of how to get minecraft and add the server to the server list.
The server is on hard, animals are not rare and spawn in appropriate places, That isn’t something I would consider appropriate for a getting starting guide, the world hard is enough.
April 28, 2015 at 2:30 pm #12947@GodsDead I am in exam hell month right now so I won’t have that much free time to work but afterwards, I should be able to make a ton more tutorial videos for the server… Do you have any ideas or a lineup or tutorial videos that are currently needed? My current list includes, brewing and ship making

This thread is for Talking about the getting started guide on the Wiki, we can have a separate forum thread about video tutorials.
May 11, 2015 at 7:52 pm #13455we could have a bit about getting to the next ranks, as I am having trouble with the parts about destroying blocks and which ones count and don’t and ideal ways of doing it without cheating i.e. dig a 50x100x50x100 flat area on the ground which 50×100=5000 so if you do that it could speed up the process.
also add blocks which also count as I did hear someone talking about breaking Redstone repeatedly but I didn’t bother doing it as I though it might not work and if it did I didn’t really want to get into trouble but I don’t know if you will or will not if you do and if you don’t get into trouble… of to the mines I go!!
Also put down that it is hard for a new player to make a base straight off the word go as the main things on the server happen at sea it best they make a (not permanent) base near the coast near trees and that they should try to make it small and simple and to have enough wood and tools to get to cadet rank and then have enough wood to sail off!!
also put down things as cutting down trees and selling them on is good as you can then get a lot of money in the meantime.
well I think that is all I think should be added so if you can expand on that and maybe use some of the info I have provided and used my self in PM then that would be awesome thanks!!

May 12, 2015 at 1:12 am #13462Gods, I would write about shelters, sailing, and claiming on the wiki if I knew how. Could you tell me?
Hi
May 12, 2015 at 8:07 am #13463Make sure people know 1 key thing; that you can enlarge a claim! I only realised this in the last 6 months, before then, I was just deleting claims, and replacing them with bigger ones! Then again, maybe I’m just stupid. 🙂
May 12, 2015 at 7:10 pm #13470I compiled one of these before I dropped of the radar! As mentioned, how claims/sieging works and what “soft blocks” are is the most important. Telling people that to rank up for Sailor you need to use a vanilla boat is important too. To be honest, an answer bot would be every handy- I’m fine with answering questions and I’m sure most of us are but it gets very frustrating to type “use soft blocks” to every new player (of whom not all would bother reading an updated sailor’s handbook, which would lead to typing “read your sailors handbook” every minute or two) when we could have a bot program to answer for us. While more information in the book is great and needs doing, it does only realistically shorten the answers to every new player to “check your book”
So… An answer bot AND a book? 😛
