Ahoy all scallwags and seadogs of PirateMC,
I am currently working on a ship gateway to connect the main ocean with the southern one. It is 170 long by 48 wide and is divided into two sections. Each section is large enough to fit a ship 8 deep by 40 wide and over 80 blocks long. There are three gates containing the sections: one middle and one at either end. The the middle gate will stay raised when the gateway is not in use.
The gateway is designed to allow any ol’ pirate ship through but it will be operated by an Automatic Toll System (ATS) which will charge two diamonds for passage through the three gates. (What can I say – A pirate loves his treasure!)
The ATS will work as follows:
[A input hopper is located either side of the middle gate]
- Move your ship into the first section of the gateway.
- Place one diamond into the first hopper <span style=”line-height: 1.5;”>and the middle gate will open while closing the two outer gates.</span>
- Now move your ship into the second section.
- Place one diamond into the second hopper and the middle gate will close while opening the two outer gates.
- Continue on your voyage to pillage/trade/explore or just wage all out war.
With the main bulk of the work already completed I am hoping to have the gateway fully operational on the weekend.

May 20, 2015 at 9:19 pm #13784I wanted to charge one diamond but my design requires two inputs to ensure the gate is left the same way as it was found. Thanks for the feedback Dr. Solid

May 20, 2015 at 9:25 pm #13785Solid, you are thanking a player for implementing a toll on a canal that was free to use up until now (albeit narrower)? xD
Congratulations on seizing the opportunity, GordensAlive! 😛
May 20, 2015 at 9:32 pm #13786its was free until now?! how did i not know this…. Well in that case i’ll make my own free canal right next to your’s 😛

May 20, 2015 at 9:52 pm #13787tut-tut, that’s not very sporting! I’m sure someone will come along with a cheaper design, near to it 🙂
May 20, 2015 at 9:55 pm #13789Aye it was, but it was narrow and very shallow (up to 1 block in places). What I have done is undertaken the hard work involved in making it large enough for all ships as well as claiming it to ensure it does not become inaccessible. So I think it reasonable to levy a relatively small charge in exchange for passage through this dedicated canal. I am hoping it will prove an asset to pirates who need to move ships between the main and southern oceans.

May 20, 2015 at 9:56 pm #13790Another canal would be a welcome addition in my eyes Crazy.

May 20, 2015 at 9:59 pm #13791And I’m all for being sporting – which is why I don’t intend to keep other pirates from using my canal. It will be automated and even sworn enemies will be allowed passage.

May 20, 2015 at 10:40 pm #13792Gordon, you inspired me to make a canal too!

May 21, 2015 at 2:37 am #13795Thanks Dorkito, go for it.
The oceans are pretty expansive but yes they should be connected Dr.Solid. Which makes for some interesting opportunists if you ask me.

May 21, 2015 at 9:15 pm #13813The gateway be ready for general use now and until I mine some more diamonds (for the ATS) the toll is only 2 iron ingots (see above for instructions on use). I’ll post more detail later.

May 25, 2015 at 12:51 am #13975I personally took the tour. I got to see this first hand, and its a great idea! The design is great and works just fine. =D
