Ahoy thar!
I’ve been sailing and thinking what’s the advantage of sailing ships? I mean, if we were talking about real life ships, the reason would be” easier/faster to get around ” and yada yada yada.
Is that the case here? Nay I say! But, there has to be another way!
Sailing at the moment in PirateCraft is maybe too simple…. and slow…. I’ve had an idea that would make ships better, and more detailed.
What if they could go faster? Not just simply faster. At the current moment the cruise jump is 5 blocks per jump, and the time it takes to jump again depends on how many cannons you have on the ship (Tell me if there are any factors I may be missing). I think 5 blocks isn’t enough especially when sailing for longer distances, plus… vanilla boats are faster. I was thinking if we could add a certain sign or say lever. That would say, maybe “Speed: UP” or “Speed: DOWN” just like how cruise works except can only be toggled after 1 minute of sailing, and has to have cruise on, and the ship needs to be a galleon or bigger, and with it turned on the ship would jump 10 blocks instead of 5.
Now I know you might think there might be some flaws to it like:
– What if there was a block/island blocking for the 10 block jump(or question of that sort)? The jump would treat it just like how the 5 block jump would be treated, it would say there is a block blocking the ship, and the Captain has to click on the sign and make it slow down, OR the sign automatically turns to slow down and continues sailing.
– Oh, 10 blocks is so much/ 1 minute is too fast/ Galleon is too big/small for that feature! These numbers and ship type suggestions are what they are, just suggestions or would you say, examples. It is entirely up to Godsy and the others to decide these, but I’d like to say that Galleon and above would be the perfect size otherwise people would just build dhows and go sonic fast and being unable to hit due to size which is a small risk with big rewards for them.
I wanted to make this suggestion because I’d love to see more depth to sailing.
(Small mini suggestion, next)
People can’t sail Manowars/Indiamans by themselves, they’d need other people with them/crew on board (At least 1 or 2 other people).
Realistically speaking, these ships couldn’t without crew members, and a LOT of them. Maybe this suggestion would enforce people to get more sailors to be aboard their ship, but idk. This might be a bad suggestion too, just thought of it as I was writing the one above ^.
Thank ye all for yer patience and time! See ya seadogs on the high seas!

October 11, 2016 at 8:46 am #41860I’m up for most ideas that will bring more life to shipping. I like the idea of requiring more crew to sail a larger ship but on the downside its another obstacle in the way of ship use.
October 11, 2016 at 3:23 pm #41866cove needs an admin shop with you can sell ex. pork steak and have large quantities of and teleportation needs disabled so the only logical way to move large amounts of items to sell is to use a ship
Lucky you will be missed 🙁
October 11, 2016 at 6:15 pm #41871I like the idea of a speed control, but that plug-in may have to be re-coded to allow that feature. Hmm, how about speed boats and water-skis? ?

~~~~~ from the dust of the void all is made, and to the void it returns~~~~~October 12, 2016 at 12:28 am #41881Yeah what Kanube said. I use this on my private server for the kids and I to make vids on. Theres not a way to do the speed up and down that I have seen in the configs but over all its pretty customizable.
The reason the speeds are currently set where they are now on the ships here is to allow for some player movement while sailing to load cannons, board ships, and fight. I think godsy had it cranked up in the beginning but dialed it back for more gameplay while sailing. Its kind of a give and take situation.
Its still hard to do stuff but at any higher speed it would be impossible to do anything while moving. I tried bumping it on my place it is faster but you have to come to a full stop to do anything.
I believe a guy that goes by the name Barra Yacca on you tube has taken over the development of the plugin. He does a lot of tutorials on his channel but it focusses on the airship aspect but still good to see as most of the set up is the same with the exception of ascending and descending. Hes pretty open to new ideas so you could always suggest the speed adjustment sign to him. Its worth a shot 🙂 I like this idea a lot.
October 12, 2016 at 4:32 am #41886Alas, we’ll have to recode it or speak to the plugin developer about this ‘ere new feature idea.
I’m currently in university studying engineering, I’m looking to go into either Computer or Electrical Engineering, but either way I’d have to learn programming and etc. Wouldn’t hurt if I get a head start, and probably even look into doing this myself, but idk. We’ll see =3
However, Mr. Blu ( @MrClusterFluxin )! We arrr talkin’ about different types of speeds (I hope). You say it be nigh impossible to do anything while sailing if we increased the speed, I be talking about the amount of blocks it jumps not how fast the jumps are, so we could leave the jump speed as it is while increasing the jump distance. Making moving while aboard a ship still possible, but what if we slowed the jump speed for the “Speed: UP” by just a little? Since the jump distance would be increased anyways. Leaving boarding and whatnot, probably even better with slower jump speeds but bigger jump distance.
@Unic0rnjunk101 I agree, I’d love for trade to happen with ships, that’d be epic, but we DON’T have tp disabled, so we’d have to make due with what we have sadly ;c
@Okta Yeah I thought it might get in the way at the same time, but it’s nice to think about it and hit the idea =PCaptain of the Pirate Crew Black Clover
October 12, 2016 at 9:27 am #41892No. As ive said before, we have tested all this, already, this isn’t a new idea (Speeding up ships is never a new idea).
Ships were all tested at a multitude of speeds/cruise jump block speeds, one by one for hours and hours before we even released them to the server (the second time) this was to specifically pick the best cruise speed. Cruise speed is the Speed a ship jumps blocks, and no its not 5 for all ships, some are 4 some are even 3.
I said yesterday in game, I wish I could speed up ships. Blu hit the nail on the head exactly.
No need to keep repeating myself over and over and over in the forums.
Again, listen and read. Actually pause for a second and think about how this works, if you have a ship thats 8 blocks long, and you TELEPORT it 10 blocks at a time, its a juddery, impossible mess, at this INSANE cruise jump you are recommending without testing (We have already tested this, we know it does not work) You are just teleporting 10 blocks at a time, at this jump, you can literally cruise your ship through islands and other ships, you could be in a head on head game of chicken with another ship and you would literally teleport to the other side of them.
Trade, again, Im repeating myself, please read the forums. It will not work on this world, yes we plan it on a new world. its already been publically discussed many times.
