Live Map Fixed with a Few Changes.

First of all sorry its taken me so long to get the map fixed.

For unknown reasons it got broken again, I know its getting tedious it keeps going down, so I made a few changes:
1. Dramatically increased the update interval from 1 second to 60 seconds
2. Moved from High Resolution renders to Low resolution
3. Removed the caves again (Not sure how this turned itself back on)
Im going to really miss those beautiful high resolution renders of the world, but its better to have a working map with crappier resolution than a half-working high resolution map!

I see it this way:

Pros
- Quicker to do a full render
- Faster to load the map
- Works?
Cons
- Looks crappier
Cross your fingers it stays working.

On another note, lets talk about the map!

Its one of the most important things for game-play on piratecraft, I know you’re all missing the claims being shown, and I will try and get that working again once we have upgraded griefprevention and have moved to 1.8, so don’t ask when the claims will be back!

On another note, lets talk Icons, At present Donators can put icons on the map using only signs in-game, So far nobody has taken advantage of this and everyone has been mature with the infinite icons they can place, This is currently hidden under the “Pirates” layer on the map, Im considering changing this to “Settlements”, and adding in another Layer “Towns” and maybe “Citys” if we get something to that kind of size, Would this make sense? Do you have a better idea? Are there any other layers we could add to show things on the map?

Any user made icons will always stay hidden by default.

Are there any server-icons that are needed to be put on the map?

Perhaps the fact that multiple towns can join together to create a country, but they have to be of reasonable “closeness” to each other. Having a separate settlements icon list, that would be cool, but it has to be toggleable. Town icons shouldn’t be toggleable, as its dam hard to get one. Also, possibly making the icons larger? The new map tilted look is different too, more of a vertical view. Maybe an arena layer, that would be cool.

i’m making 3 citys for my empire the city of trapzon (close to being finish) the city of marra (or maria) and the city of sivas (or sibas which ever sounds best,you can vote)

i would love to know how could this 3 be conected like draw a trail to each one of them.

On a side JK

i was looking at the ottoman empire map again and i found that a big contry on the empire (bigger then the island i live in) is calld ATHEN XD i personally found this funny

Crazy hes talking about toggleables so they’d all toggle.

I think maybe there should just be maybe a donator missive with a link to a tutorial on how to do it; because people are not using it more because most don’t really know how. I know I didn’t even know about color codes until markus told me.

@Azuries haha yeah, good point, the markers how-to are on the map page if you were interested.

@Dr.solid Please understand the difference between a settlement, town and city, we barely have towns at present http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Settlement_guide

Towns are usually well known in most places.”

Therefore, Port Royal is a town! ;p

But all joking aside, member count is 5, its part of a massive Empire, has so many buildings, a Port, a cathedral, about 20 houses, and an arena…Pretty please? 🙂

Port Royal is a default spawned villager town converted! So no! And those people need to be active all the time, like constantly working on it, as a team, Keep working on it @CrazyPirate1, maybe convert the houses to your own design, but a town means, someone travels there for a reason.

I think the closet we have to a town was Reptarias city, they had a lot of active players at one point, now its a ghost town.

Didn’t Athen have a medium sized village with quite a few active people? If anyone needs help building a town, I’d be glad to help build.

I have built like half the houses there, but just in that style! Also, just recruited a few more new people. Just look at it from livemap; its defiantly not a default spawn village.

There are no official towns on this server, sorry everybody its just not OFFICIAL. And its not our fault. There is literally no way to make a town, in the sense that we know it of. Sure, you can make some claims with diff. “members” trusted to them, and you can make a group, but come on. Only people who see that are the members of the community, and there is no literal way to recognize a town in game unless you know the founder or a member or someone told you.

So we need something that makes towns official, other than someone saying, “Oh Ya. GUYS! Wassup. I haz town now. Come come, I has town!”

Either that, OR: we have specific guidelines for a town, and towns get a marker on the livemap, or (if this is possible, uniquely colored claims! <– Love this idea! )
