I think I get what you mean, like the projectile powers itself (for a bit longer) or flies a bit like a snipershot before falling?

That could be a cool, firing in straight lines for more precise shots, not that it would be infinite distance, it would just go for an awful lot further (or drop an incredibly lot slower). The fact they’re fireworks would also make them slightly rarer too.

Only thing I would say, is that there could be the downside (apart from just being a bit rarer than cobble) is to have a random chance of it blowing up as it fires. Not hurting anyone or the ship or cannon in the process, just the projectile destroys itself.  Would look cool if someone loaded their ship with these, fired and some of the fireworks complemented the other fireworks by blowing up outside the cannons for them.
