I know the server started in 2013, so there are one year and a half of misterious dark age which I will pleasurably start to study as soon as I finish the correction of 2014-2015. As a start, Port Royal was founded by you, so you could tell me around which month it was founded, right?
I can give you the details on the politics of the new world (the existing map) but I struggle to remember the politics on the old world, if there were any at all, due to the very low player base.
Nassau was founded within 24 hours of the new world being created, as it was the island that all the initial testing was done on. Adzybaba, one of the more influential pirates of the time, claimed it as his own, and with the two other testers, Timhuisman and myself, we founded the Batavian Empire. However, Nassau was little more than a barren desert, and so I ventured down south. After much exploring, I found a default village, located on a savannah island that was then at the world border. I then claimed it as Port Royal, and within a few weeks, it was expanding rapidly with new members, farms, and the like, ultimately becoming the powerhouse of the Batavian Empire.
Port Royal could actually be argued as the oldest town/village on the server, having existed since the moment of the maps generation in the state of a default village. However, players only inhabited the town a week or so after the new map, as we were all so preoccupied with making Nassau work.
Again, I lack specific dates, but about a month in, the Nassau was ransacked by players located in a small pirate settlement named New Providence, the main rival to the Batavian Empire. However, that meant that we became more centralised, and development continued at Royal at an astounding rate. A number of other city states were established, however, Port Royal was undoubtedly one of the more economically developed, populous and resource rich.
I’d say that Port Royal became a city-state just over a month into the new server, a few days after the fall of Nassau, as the relocation of Nassau’s citizens into the town resulted in rapid expansion and development. As for New Providence, it was formed about 2 weeks into the new server, although only gained traction and wider acknowledgement after the fall of Nassau; little was known about it before then.
As for the City-State of Tortuga, your best source of information would be @Markusi13 as I knew very little of it, bar that we planned to raid him a few times, for stealing some arrows (seems rather silly now).
