Topic: The Deal about HardTimez…
This thread is mainly for Godsy who has been apalled at the legendary status of such a horrible player (understandable) and the newer members of PirateCraft who weren’t around to see the banned player HardTimez and what he did to the server. In this post I wan’t to clarify who he actually was and what he did to impact PirateCraft that we all remember for him for. Or at least what I do.
Many now associate/confuse him with the title of Pirate Lord. HardTimez was far from that. He was a conglomerate of sea scum and barnacles that latched onto the hull of PirateCraft; that is until Godsy scraped him off like the piece of filth he was. HardTimez was a disgusting, ruthless, individual who hacked because he lacked skill in PvP combat and adored negative attention. On top of that he was rude as well as abusive towards players and staff alike just to feed into his own ego. It’s now about a year since he has been banned (celebrate) if i’m not mistaken and his name has been coming up in the topic of PirateCraft history.
Why do people still say his name if he was so bad? Why do they mention him at all in the server’s history? Why is he mythologized? I believe it is not what he did, but what the server did in response to him that is remembered and revered most. Many crews before his terror weren’t close, allies were far and few between. Every crew cared about their own individual destinies and wouldn’t be bothered with others unless they got in their way. HardTimez changed all that. His brutal massacres in PvP using hacks and his assaults in chat created a common enemy that was realized by many. This is how the League of Nations, what was then the Allied, came about; one of the largest and greatest alliances created in PirateCraft history initially to combat HardTimez and his outlaws as well as help each other recover from the attacks. Numerous other players and crews banded together and fought side by side for one of the first times in PirateCraft History to put an end his filth and fear during the Outlaw War. After HardTimez eventually was banned and the pirates beaten back (at least for a small while) crews began building without fear, and with newfound friends, created some of the most amazing builds and settlements still present today. They began to recover overtime, still maintaining the closeness and connectivity with allies brought upon them in the time of war. Now many of these nations strive to make PirateCraft the best community it can be, helping deckies, contributing to forums and build projects, even just obeying the rules of PirateCraft and leaving their mark with a base or a crew of their own.
HardTimez dealt out the worst, being the worst himself, but simultaneously brought the best out of every other crew in PirateCraft. HardTimez shouldn’t be remembered as a Pirate Lord, but as the catalyst that brought us as a community closer together. He should also stand as a reminder to us all that the good will always triumph over evil. Let us look to other’s to claim the title Pirate Lord, as they are more deserving than the honorary Pirate “Lard” HardTimez.
I hope I explained this well enough for people to make sense of it and didn’t step on any toes in the process as this is a very sensitive topic. Any of the older players, feel free to explain/leave your input as well as correct any errors that I may have made. Now hopefully HardTimez can be properly understood as to what role he played in this server’s history; the one that many miss label.
I added 3 new custom commands today to help with people finding out information on our other services to communicate.
/teamspeak
/discord
/skypeΒ (I need someone to answer this http://piratemc.com/topic/piratecraft-skype-group/#post-38682)
It may help players direct people when they say things like “what is teamspeak” and you can reply “./teamspeak”
You will also notice a new login box on the live map, This allows select players to log into the map so they can talk from it, its limited to staff only at present.
I have made a connetion between the game-chat and the piratecraft discord server, giving us game-chat inside discord chat channel.
This allows relay of global game-chat to discord, and also allows discord messages sent in this channel be sent in-game, at present, this sending of messages is limited to admins only on discord, this stops abuse, or banned players spamming the server.
This will work the same as the live map chat, where you won’t be able to see a history (I miss the map chat feature, maybe I should trial it again, it is permission based, maybe Ill try the login first feature)

Information page
Piggybacking off this post from Apple http://piratemc.com/topic/suggestion-brief-slideshow-for-newcomers/
We need a new spawn, new tutorials and a quick new player intro fly around.
I tested a plugin today that would allow the slideshow tutorial idea from Apple, sadly it was broken, there are many ways we could still do this, I think first things first we need a list of per-written messages ready to populate the plugin, I’m not entirely sure the titles and subtitles will have enough information.
What I find daunting is when you first join a server and server chat is just moving at a crazy pace, they don’t get a change to read the motd, its like server chat needs to be stopped for them aswell to not distract and get some basic information across before they can start writing in chat, what needs to be included for every new player?
Things I can think of for the slideshow title tutorial (In order)
- We are a pirate themed survival server with fun mechanics
Survival gameplay with additional plugins to expand on survival (Can someone think of a better intro?)
– Player hovering over spawn ship - We have working Ships and Cannons
You can build your own or buy a pre made one
– demo of a moving ship and cannons firing - We use GriefPrevention to protect your builds
You start with a chest that will auto protect your first build, then you will need a golden shovel (This is way too long..)
–Β player is TP to a location with a protected build with terrain blown up and on fire around it - We have working Gates & Bridges
You can build these yourself
– TP to moving bridges and gates of a build automatically - We have custom brewing (Not sure this needs to be included? too much info)
For brewing Grog
– Teleport to a room with all the brews on the wall and barrels etc - You can get started by leaving spawn in any direction
Or use /map and pick a /warp to get further out from spawn
– player has a Birdseye view of spawn, then gets dropped in
Spawn re-build at /warp west
The entire spawn needs to be remade, there is no natural “Flow” for new players to follow for learning the basics of PirateCraft at all, its just random signs here and there, and then random tutorials at the cove, I want to move spawn entirely and have all tutorials on one island /warp west
I want to move/re-build all the current tutorials onto this massive island, into some sort of tutorial pirate seaside town, this gives us an area for demoing working ships (I could spawn a massive lake in the middle of this island) and all tutorials.
This new spawn will need to be community built, I can setup an entire second server just to get this built in creative is this makes life easier and gets the project done, either that or what might be better is just using what we have, and having a build team that has access to a build room full of resources and fully trust everyone on the team to not just loot it all, this could be accomplished by having a spawn build leader, than can trust people onto the claim, the area could be PVP free to stop any drama. we could have a wiki of rules to follow for the build, a discord channel dedicated, a TS channel dedicated.
2 things need doing;
- Rebuild a whole new spawn with a boat-load of new signs
- we have a spawn ship (that’s already made) that has a basic overview
- Leaving the ship onto The island has a path you can follow to buildings, each is numbered and color coordinated, with arrows pointing in a direction to not get lost, each building explains in more detail/demos/tutorials for each guide of the server.
- All warps can be moved to these new tutorial from the cove to the new locations
- The tutorials will be simple and straight to the point, each will also have a button to open up the corresponding website page, and also link directly to the /info pages that are scattered around too.
- We have a quick overview tutorial that flys new players around in a slideshow fashion with titles and subtitles before it drops them into spawn (It will need to have a skipable feature and do this in less than a minute as people do not have patience)
Who?
This will need a project leader, that cant be me. Someone who can organize all this. We do already have a Builder team run by @paulonfire, but Im not sure if Paul can take on any more projects? Paul give me a shout if you want to manage something of this scale or have someone in mind that would be a good candidate. So first call goes out to everyone on the Build team.
I need a teamleader for this project that won’t just bail or get board or start it and just not bother completing the project, I need someone that will see it through!
Builders, this will take a lot of effort, and coordination and planning, we have already started this build and already laid out some footing for builds, builders will be doing the work, to make this look like a pirate town on the seaside, you will need to be able to work together to create a town that all follows a build style of Shanty Pirate town/Ruins of an old civilization that was there before them (Or got a better theme idea?)
Whats our incentive to build a new spawn?
First of all, recognition for doing each section, I suggest we have a section that is dedicated to whos built what, so we have a log kept on the Wiki so we can track everything each person has done so then we can have a fall of fame.
Other than that, All I can think of is a bunch of custom tools after its all finished, a ton of claim blocks, and a bunch of other goodies depending on how much was accomplished, this is why it will need to be logged by the manager of the project.
Communication
Special Wiki page for organization, Locked down Discord channel for builders only, locked down Teamspeak for builders only, I can even create a custom in-game channel just for the builders to talk in-game without having to leave your crew.
Terrain
I love creating custom terrain, I have the tools to create crazy or unique terrain, so we can make this really unique, want a volcano or mountains? a lake there? river there? I can do it with VoxelSniper and my Custom worldedit scripts.
Also, I have a quick way of planting a ton of palm trees that are unique each time.
Inspiration
Yesterday when i were reading the news, i read an article about young people and their food culture. That was bad news, really bad news. So i decided to make some biscuts for ya! π
Backstory:
The pirates could be on the sea for months, and they started to get tired of they salty fish. Then some clever pirate invented those biscuits, a hard version of crispbread.
Recpipe:
7 dl flour
3 dl lukewarm water
10 g yeast
some salt
Mix water and yeast in a bowl, add flour and salt, knead the dough to a smooth clump.Β Let the dough rise in one hour, play some Piratecraft meanwhile, form the dough on a baking sheet and cut it into small Biscuits that you you will be able to break off when done.
Put the dough in the oven, 175 degrees celcius in 1 hour! π
Before you eat:
For a biscuit it’s almost impossible to rotten, but maggots and mites love them. Therefore did the pirates eat their biscuits in a dark room to advoid looking at what they really ate.
Serving:
Many pirates on the sea did suffer to scurvy (they didn’t eat enough vegetables and were in need of C vitamins, which caused “scurvy” an illness that makes your teeth rotten – eat your vegetabels!) This meant that it were almost impossible to eat the extremly hard and dry Biscuts, that problem made the clever pirates dip their biscuits in rum or saltwater.
Bon appetite! π
Edit:
This is a great project to do with kids, if those are interested in pirates too! π (which kid aren’t?)
You can add oregano, salt and rosmarine on top of the biscuits to make them taste of something.
